Luggage Tags – Quilted With Love
Do you remember a craze back in the 90s for quilted jackets and sweatshirts? Sue and I made a quilted sweatshirt for her sister and my mom. After we cut out the pattern pieces for each sweatshirt we had some extra quilted scraps. We saved those, of course! I am happy that we did because after my mom passed I used a scrap to make a luggage tag. Her name was Violet, and we used purple for her sweatshirt – and now my tag. ~smile~
Luggage Tag
We took a cruise through the Adriatic Sea last year, and before we left I wanted a different luggage tag. I saw no reason that I couldn’t make my own, and this is what I came up with:
My inspiration came from this luggage tag from our days of group tour traveling on Globus during the summer. I dissected it and discovered I had everything I needed on hand. I save the plastic bags that sheets and pillowcases come in. The are handy for keeping project pieces together and clean; hence my choice for this tag. I decided that a length of elastic would suffice as a hanger.
Luggage Tag Hints:
Here is a link to my tutorial on how to make these: tag-tutorial. They are just SO easy to make. My Lily sewing machine sewed through the plastic without issue – didn’t hesitate at all. Do yourself a favor and pin it on all sides VERY CLOSE TO THE EDGE. Any pin marks will show, so keep them inside the sewing line. Or use those cute little clips that I plan to pick up next weekend at a big sale we are going to. Don’t stress over the shape or size of your tag – it can be any size and shape you like! I would love to hear/see if you decide to make some yourself. Share a picture on our Facebook page, Instagram #homesewnbyus so we can find you, or share in the comments below. ~smile~
