Joining Sherry’s January QAL

Have you been making mental or physical list of what you plan to do in the new year?  It won’t be long and we will have to remember to write 2019.  I had mental list started around the beginning of October, and then by Halloween I had so many thoughts that they had to be written down.  I have a nifty Excel-like calendar in Google Drive that I add monthly goals to.  January now has a pretty extensive list, but there’s always room for one more.  Right?!  Sherry from Powered By Quilting is hosting a quilt along (QAL) starting January 8th.  It coincides with the release of her new pattern, Hidden Stars.

Sherry’s Pattern Sale!

Nicely enough, Sherry also has her new pattern on sale until the new year.  Of course, I have promised many, many, MANY times that we are NOT doing another QAL.  Sue just hates them, and we find them stressful.  So why on earth did I raise my hand to join in.  Show some restraint just once, Roseanne Marie.  Why though??  This isn’t a mystery QAL!  We can see the end result right now.  Choose the size you want to make, pick your fabrics and you are good to go.  Sue can even cut the fabrics ahead of time because we have the pattern.  Technically, why even wait for Sherry!!!  We chose Spotted by Zen Chic.  What’s not to like – faded spots in pretty, pretty colors?!!

The Pros of a QAL

Indeed, why wait?  One reason is that Sherry is going to give her tips and tricks as the weeks progress.  Honestly, the main reason is that there just isn’t time!  We have a few other projects that I would like to complete and get off the books.  Plus, we are very patiently awaiting Baby Girl. ~smile~  Without a doubt, we could easily think of something that she just needs in the blink of an eye.  One other reason to wait and join in with the QAL is the camaraderie formed with other quilters.  There is a Facebook page to share you progress, as well as ooh and ahh over others.

So Ya Wanna?

Have a persuaded you to join in?  You’ll have to check out Sherry’s link above for all the dets.  I have to toot our own horn, too.  We are starting a third sew along on January 1st or so.  It’s casual with no deadline, no stress, no pressure.  The focus is paper piecing and a free hummingbird pattern.  Make it into a wall hanging, mug rug, or a bigger sized quilt.  Whatevs.  More info coming about our sew along soon, as I still have to write the pattern yet!!

All of our Linky Parties can be found by clicking the tab above or along the sidebar on our website for more quilting fun – check out what our friends are up to.  Like/follow us on our Facebook page and you can share your photos of what you’re working on.  We would love to see them!

Thank goodness your sew along is going to be paper-piecing! I still have two to finish! Okay, one isn’t even started past fabric acquisition. I know the hummingbirds will make a lovely flock!

  3. Oh I just ❤️ Sherry and all that she does!

  4. Kathryn says:

Love your fabric and the pattern looks like a lot of fun, will be gorgeous when finished. I just might do your hummingbird though!

I looked at the pattern, thought hard about it and said “Not this time.” But I am looking forward to your sew-along in January. I think the size will be more manageable. And I am starting my quilt from your first sew-along. Nothing like being very late to the wedding…like when it’s already completed—and maybe the kids are already born!!!

  6. Using spotted is going to look so awesome!!! 🙂 I promise you’ll get the quilt (top) done in no time!

  7. I also will have to bow out of this QAL, though I do look forward to seeing your progress. I love that Zen Chic Spotted fabric. Those colors-oh la la! I am committed to three QALs/BOMs in 2019 which is your paper-pieced hummingbird QAL, the Perfect HST BOM hosted by Lee Heinrich, and Rebecca Bryan’s Stargazer BOM. On top of two blocks a month for our quilting bee and several other projects I want to do, 2019 will be a busy year! Take care, Mary.

  8. There are always more interesting sewalongs than there is time at my machine, I’m afraid! I’ll have to pass on this one, but I’ll be living (sewing?) vicariously through you as you sew Hidden Stars. I think it’s going to look awesome in Zen Chic!

  9. Actually, I’ve been thinking that I need to cut back on QALs this year. I never seem to get the quilt completely finished. The top gets done and then it becomes a UFO. The only one I have signed up for is a mystery quilt by our state quilting group. I may regret that. Haha. I will say that I’m considering Sherry’s though, the pattern is very well done and goes together so well. We’ll see! Glad you are joining in!

  10. Good luck with the QAL — I love all Zen Chic fabrics and you can’t go wrong with stars!
