Joining Fireburst Mystery Quilt QAL

This is one mystery QAL that I may end up doing all by myself, from start to finish.  I promised Sue that we wouldn’t do any mystery quilt alongs ever again.  I faithfully raised my right hand to my heart and said we wouldn’t.  We aren’t.  I am.  I didn’t break my promise and I just HAVE to participate in this Fireburst Mystery Quilt QAL.

Some Fireburst Details

Tish and her husband Dave of Tish’s Adventures in Wonderland are hosting this quilt along.  In the link I just shared, you will find the fabrics that each of them are using.  This is actually Dave’s original pattern that he will be sharing with us.  Another really cool thing is that they have started a Facebook Group page that you can join (you have to request membership).  Share your updates there and see what other’s are up to as well.

Tish does a FABULOUS job discussing how to select your fabrics, in a previous post called Picking Fabrics.  In depth suggestions based on the color wheel are given, and the science behind it!  We do not use science to select our fabrics – at least not knowingly.  We just pick what looks nice together, and recently we have started checking values.  Since I’m mono e mono on this project, I can pick whatever I like!

A while ago I was shopping by myself and picked up a BUNCH of fabrics.  Remember this pile of goodness and fun:

Sale

It is still all in tack, untouched, even the puppy flannels for our sweet boy.  So, I think I will shop from some of this goodness for this mystery quilt.  I see a lot of black and gray, as I have been wanting to make a quilt in just those colors.  Add a pop of hot pink or perhaps the teal I see there and maybe we’ll have something to work with.  Hmmm.

Fireburst Choice

I don’t know yet!  I am now leaning toward this option, in our usual primary colors.  Also, just released now is the first cutting direction/instructions on Tish’s website.  I easily have a yard of many different choices . . . I’ll keep you posted here and in the Facebook group if you join us. ~smile~

I think this will be my choice of fabrics!

  9. Oh these quilt alongs are hard to resist! But the pacing is usually manageable. Lovely fabrics to use; can’t wait to see what you do with them!

I love both your piles of fabric!

  11. Oh, in that pile of fabric, that black/white fabric — I have teensy bits of that fabric left. I love, love, love it. It always just seems to be the right fabric for this or that. I’m on the hunt for more of it. Your pull looks good. I haven’t decided what I’m using yet; I have two other projects keeping me occupied at the moment, but I am thinking on it. I might have to go to a quilt shop . . .
