It’s Flip-Flops for a June OMG Project

Here it is June 2nd already and it’s time to select something to focus on for our monthly One Monthly Goal (OMG). This school year is coming to a quick end. Our last day is June 8th, while Sue’s school district wraps up on June 9th. This month, we are going to focus on making a table-topper that features flip-flops and flowers. Patty at Elm Street Quilts hosts a linky party at the beginning and end of each month. We’ll link up with her now and then again to share our success at the end of the month.

It’s Flip-Flops Season?!

We did enjoy some summer-like weather during the month of May. It was in the 80s for a week straight and we were tempted to pull out all of our summer garb. Being Wisconsin natives though, we knew the tide would change to frost warnings soon. Sure enough, Memorial Day weekend started with rain and high temperatures around 60. That wasn’t enough to have us hide our flip-flops and sandals. We Wisconsin folks are hardy stock! What’s a little cold tootsie for a few days? All the better to show off a newly acquired pedicure, perhaps.

Count On Flip-Flops

We have been making a few table-toppers from this appliqué book called, Count On It.

You’ll recognize the shamrock featured on the bottom-right corner which we used for our Shamrock runner. I think we also pulled the heart shapes from this book for Sissy’s Valentine’s Day runner (that is held sideways!). Hmm. There may a theme going on here because this topper-to-be is also for Sissy. The flip-flops are pictured on the cover with the word “July”, right under the flash circle.

Flip-Flops and Flowers

This topper is going to resemble the V-Day one in that it will have four quadrants on a light beige/ecru fabric. Finding just the perfect fabric for our flippies is Sue’s charge, and we found some cute choices in our stash. The flower design is also pictured on the cover shared above with the word “May”. It resembles a sunflower, I think. Yellow is Sissy’s favorite color so the flowers should definitely be made from that. You’ll have to wait for the final choices, though (building suspense)!

Stack of appliqué designs – yowza!

Flip-Flops For the Win

I have the Olympics on my mind lately after enjoying the Simone Biles double pike landing recently. I hope she does well in Japan – actually, my hat is off to all of the athletes. To summarize our June One Monthly Goal project, we will make one really cute flip-flops and flowers table-topper worthy of celebrating the start of summer.
