It’s A Daisies Galore Flower-Power OMG and TGIFF
Welcome to TGIFF – Thank Goodness It’s Finished Friday! For our October, 2020 One Monthly Goal we elected to quilt and finish our Flower-Power table runner. Not only to quilt it, but to use the inspiration shared by Rebecca of Rebecca Grace Quilts called Daisies Galore. While she shared a pantograph that is used by longarm quilters, I felt that it was a design that would carryover well onto a domestic sewing machine. After a few days of trying it on paper with a pen, it was time to transfer my mental acumen and thoughts to thread and the quilt top.
The appliqué flowers in the Flower-Power quilt top do resemble a daisy, or perhaps a simple sunflower. I guess a daisy only has five petals and a sunflower many more but you get the general idea. This table runner was started in September as our monthly OMG project. It never even had a whole post sharing the details of its creation until we set the goal to finish it this month.
Once the borders were on, it was time to start thinking about quilting and thanks to Rebecca, I had a plan in my head. Practice makes perfect . . . or at least better, in my case. Here’s one of my attempts at trying to get the petals to be a similar size and shape.
On To Quilting
Once I had enough worry time in, it was time to jump right in and get ‘er done. Since it’s all about free-motion quilting, it was time to swap out the regular quarter-inch foot for the FMQ/ruler foot.
Once we had it layered up, I took a deep breath, changed the thread to a purple-ish gray thread, and let ‘er rip. Quilting that is!
Flower-Power It’s a Wrap
Quilting really didn’t take very long, but I kept telling myself to keep the petals uniform. That worked most of the time . . . but there are a few missteps.
We used this fun retro-looking fabric as the backing and I used a soft white thread in the bobbin. You can see some of the quilted daisies in this photo.
The same green fabric was chosen for the binding for a seamless finish.
Ta-da! One Flower-Power Daisies Galore table runner finish complete with a peace fabric cozy. Sue’s Mom even had a lava lamp we were going to add to the photo shoot but it was broken. Darn it! I had also hoped to eek out one for finish this month but it will have to count as an early November one instead. We will be linking this finish up to Patty’s Elm Street Quilts October OMG party, too.
The linky party will open in a separate window – please share your finish or near finish. Spread the love by visiting and commenting on other contributions – you just might find some new inspiration.
Consider joining us each Tuesday for our hosted linky party called To-Do Tuesday. Check our sidebar or our Linky Parties page on our website for more quilting fun. Like/follow us on our Facebook page to share the photos of what you’re working on. We would love to see them!
