I Love Thursday #84 – Blessings Abound

This is our 84th post of things we love for the week.  We post these loves each Thursday along with LeeAnna on her blog at Not Afraid of Color.  Several additional friends also share on a weekly basis – be sure to check them out.  You will surely find something to inspire you.  I’m also trying a new linky party at Denise’s For the Love of Geese.

Love #1

Photos shared!  Rochelle follows our blog but doesn’t have her own.  When I asked her if she did have one she said no, and she didn’t because it would take time away from quilting.  Well, yes . . . that is true.  Anyway, she sent me pictures of her finished Regatta and two Prairie Point ornaments that she made.  Aren’t these just SO cool.  I would love to get my hands on that Regatta and quilt it for her.  I’ve been wanting to make another one just for that very reason (Sue doesn’t know it’s going on the list yet)!  So Rochelle, if you’d like me to quilt it for you – I will quite happily!

Love #2

Pretty ring!  I was blessed to spend the whole day sitting quietly with my sister.  We got a chance to catch up and I learned a LOT of family history that occurred before my time.  She passed on this pretty ring to me that day.  The story behind it is that our Aunt Dolly gave it to her when she turned 18.  Aunt Dolly, whose real name was Marie like her mother and where my middle name came from, got this beautiful ring when she married her first husband, Milan.  They didn’t stay together because he didn’t want children and she did, so she passed on the ring to her Goddaughter.  My sister passed the ring on to me as her Goddaughter, and I’ve been wearing it ever since.  It makes me happy to look at this ring and think of my aunt and sister being with me.  I don’t have a Goddaughter to pass it on to, but I have someone who should have been . . . so that’s the route I’m going to take in the future.  It will carry on the tradition, complete with the history, as I can share it.  ~smile~

Love #3

“Sale fabric”!  I’ve said this one or two times before, but I am weak when it comes to fabrics.  Add the word “sale” and I’ll happily check it out.  Sometimes I even show restraint and say no to temptation.  These 108″ wide backing were not turned away.  Zebra Skins – I mean come on, who could say no to them.  Such nice fabric – it feels so luxe.  They don’t have a permanent home in a quilt yet but will very soon be in the newly organized closet shelf just for wide backings!

Wide backings

This was before I knew about the downsizing fabric haul we were gifted!  I feel like I need to defend this fabulous purchase for some reason . . . ~smile~

Love #4

Card and sweet feet!  Not only did we get beautiful flowers for Mother’s Day, but also the cutest cards ever.  The first card exactly matches what we look like at the door when they come over.  Going and coming, we are happily waving at the door ready to jump out and carry someone inside or take a bag.  The second card really needs no explanation.  However, Addison loved putting her feet in paint and Dominic didn’t really care for it.  Being the champ that he is, he muscled through it for Auntie Sue and Rose.

Love #5

Poms the movie!  I love Diane Keaton, and this movie didn’t disappoint us.  It is many different touching moments that brought tears to my eyes (but I’m a crier).  The bond between Martha (Diane Keaton) and her new friend, Sheryl (Jacki Weaver), is realistic.  They both need a friend and it is fortunate that they live next to each other.  The reviews on this movie are not good, but we never listen to them or we would have missed this gem.  Sue and I have even talked about moving into one of the senior complexes.  We would probably have similar thoughts and experiences that Martha did upon her arrival.

Love #6

Dominic had a fabulous week, as did his sister, Addison.  Someone got his very first Big Boy haircut, and sat in the chair like he’s been doing it all his life.  We are all so darn proud of him.  Speaking of being proud, look at sweet girl sitting in her booster chair.  This is how she looks when Sesame Street is on, even if Grandma is being very entertaining.  Dominic was just as enthralled; it must be a very good episode.  I wonder what the letter of the day was?!

Addison loves her bathtime and looks so cute in her little hoodie towel, don’t you think?  Dominic got a new sunhat and Addison got a new pretty dress.  She knows she looks pretty in the dress, doesn’t she?!!  Finally, I’ll leave you with our little Cheezer himself saying I got a Big Boy haircut.  Oh yes, he did and he can cheese it up.

Here’s a link to a video showing how much we all love finally having a day of sunshine!  This is Brandy sharing her enthusiasm with all of us.

now that’s a happy dance, er scratch! Loved it. Oh the story of your sister brought a smile to my heart. That connection, not to mention a very special pretty ring, and the idea of giving it to someone who should have been your god daughter is precious. Write down the provenance for her, so when she passes it along one day, she can add her story and that will make it even more meaningful. Love, leeAnna

  2. Brandy looks so happy out there! Such a beautiful ring. I love when jewelry stays in the family and gets passed down. I have way too much fabric but always seem to buy more. I just can’t pass up sales! Addison is such a cutie! Have a great week!!

I enjoyed this post so darn much! Those ornaments from Rochelle! Zebra skins look luscious. Those Mother’s Day cards are so perfect. I get excited when they drop Thomas off for the weekend and then I have to be really busy when he leaves cause the house is so quiet. We like the letter of the day too- Sesame Street helped my almost 50 years old kids so much for preparing them for kindergarten. Have a wonderful weekend. mary

Well another fantastic week of likes and loves. Thank you for the nice comments on my quilt. BTW is Ellie back from the repair shop? I really like Diane Keaton and will be looking for that movie. I have several rings passed down from family members and wonder what I will be doing with them. I will have to sit down and talk to my daughter about them. Those kids can’t get any cuter!!! So glad we get to see more of them!

Addison is such a pretty little girl and love her pretty dress! So proud of Dominic–big boy–with his haircut 🙂 I love your ring. You have a wonderful week!

Wow – so much to love this week! I literally LOL when I read about the first card being exactly what you ladies look like when the littles come over. And what a treasure and a blessing that ring is! And can I finish up by saying that those kiddos get cuter every week!? I adore seeing them so thank you for sharing. Happy end of the week!

  9. That is a beautiful ring, and the perfect story of how it came to you, Roseanne! I know you’ll find the perfect person to give it to. So glad to hear you liked Poms! My mom and I often talk about movies when we’re on the phone on Sundays, and I thought she and her friend might like that one. I hope they did! Love, as always, your pics of those sweet kiddos, and your dog enjoying the grass is hilarious!

Gorgeous ring and great story. I love wide backs, I am getting lazy in my old age and they really are cheap. Addison is so dang cute. Oh the 1st big boy haircut to me is always so sad….it is a right of passage and they are big kids now. Love the foot print pic.

That ring is so pretty. Love the color, and what a great history. That’s always such a nice keepsake to have. Those backings! They’re terrific!

  12. I love your ring story. We have a confirmation ring in my family that is about 200 years old. I got the ring after confirmation. I gave it to my niece when she got married (since she was the only one who was confirmed). Hoping she keeps the tradition alive (she has a daughter). Those types of stories touch my heart and the ring is beautiful and I love babies…..

I love family tradition, like passing down your ring…keeps connections thru multi-generations. The fabric is going to make beautiful backings. I really like the ornament too.

  15. chrisknits says:

OH MY! That pup is just adorable!!! Too bad we all can’t act like that in public. LOL!!

  16. I love family stories about jewelry and things that are passed down. I will have to add Denise’s linky to my list. I keep wanting to start one – no good idea yet. I love the kiddos of course and dog….so much fun! The cat is out of the bag on two counts – a project and a desire to quilt someone’s quilt!!! Hope your week is terrific.

  17. Hi Roseanne, what a lovely ring story and I’m happy you will keep the tradition alive! I buy wide backs all the time especially when they are on sale — great pictures of the babies this week ♥♥ I’m a big Diane Keaton fan but the Poms trailer didn’t wow me — glad to see your opinion of the movie!

  18. Lovely likes and you know I adore that ring and the story behind it. Looks like a December birthstone which is so pretty.
I love Diane Keaton interviews…she is so interesting. I’ve not heard of the movie.
Two adorable little kiddies to round out your life. Love the cards.

  19. Denise says:

Beautiful ring and babies. I’m not much of fabric stash but with a local fabric store closing I just cant help myself. With 10+ ( I say plus because I am really unsure) yards purchased at each of my 3 visits I seriously have to rethink my 1 drawer rule. Thank you for linking up.

  20. What a pretty ring, Roseanne, and it’s so sweet that you will pass it on in keeping with the tradition. I need to buy wide backs; I never think of it. And speaking of Regatta — I really should get mine quilted and finished!
