I Love Thursday #63
This is our 63rd post of things we love for the week. We post these loves each Thursday along with LeeAnna on her blog at Not Afraid of Color. Several additional friends also share on a weekly basis – be sure to check them out. You will surely find something to inspire you.

Thread Magic! We finally found and started using Thread Magic for the hand quilting project Sue has been struggling with. Thank you, Vicki, for suggesting the product in the first place. Sue reports that it is working well! No thread breakage and is it also diminishing the knots and tangles. Woot woot to a win/win., plus it’s easy to use.

A CLEAN Car! We had some unexpectedly early snow, and actually had a snow day in November (unheard of for us, especially that early!!). I usually drive my car most of the winter without getting it washed unless there is too much salt spray on it. Once I can no longer see out the window for my sideview mirror, I know it’s time to get it washed. My dad would be spinning in his grave, knowing how few times I wash my car. But it is sparkling clean-ish, or as clean as a $6 carwash can get it. ~smile~ It’s so nice to see out the windows again! I am thinking I need to join their monthly club for unlimited washes until the snow is gone . . . that would make my dad happy! ♥ ♥
Love #3
Large family parties! Both my parents were the oldest of nine siblings. This past weekend the Nelson side of my family had its annual Christmas party. Two of my aunts are still alive and able to attend, which is a blessing. One just turned 99 and the other is 92. I have a ton of first through fourth generation cousins! There might even be some fifth generation ones if I contemplate it a bit. The party is held at the American Legion Post that my cousin Sally had to join so we could reserve it each year. No kids in the bar area is the only rule, along with bring a dish and a dessert to pass. This is me with my Aunt Vernell who is 92 years young.
Love #4
Cozy mysteries! I visited a blog and the owner was looking for cozy mystery author suggestions. Of course I couldn’t possibly remember who that was, so I thought I’d share the list we complied here. Cozy mysteries are a lighter version of mystery books without the violence and usually a bit of romance. Here are some of the authors we enjoy: Joanne Fluke, Laura Levine, Harper Lin, Amanda Lee, Nancy Martin, Earlene Fowler, Gemma Halliday, Cleo Coyle, Mary Marks, Misa Ramirez or Melissa Burbon. From our fellow blogger friend, Susan: Felicity Young, and Clarke’s Todd. Finally, recently shared by Bernie on her blog, Foot and Needle, comes Carol Dean Jones. Her series has a quilting theme along with a quilting pattern included that is featured on the cover.
Love #5
Dominic, the little sweetheart, went to visit Santa last weekend. While he wasn’t real keen on him he still sat on his lap and got a picture. More importantly, he enjoyed Santa’s chair! And the snowman, sleigh and ice cream cone chairs that the big kids were sitting in. Of course, to remind you that he is still just one, no yogurt made it into his mouth for breakfast. ~smile~ The Santa photos were taken in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.

Just a small little last love – happy birthday to my mom would would have been 107 today. I got to enjoy her until 99.5 so I was blessed, but I still miss her every day. Even if my sister thinks I should be over it.

Roseanne – the picture of you with your aunt made me smile way big. My Mom turns 90 in one week, and we will all be gathering in Ohio at the end of the month to fete her. I have done most of the organizing for the party, so I am pretty excited about it. And of course, the pix of Dominic are just adorable!
Charles Todd. =) My mom would have been 106 this year. You must have come along later in life than I did! I still miss Mama, and she’s been gone a very long time. How blessed you are! I expect you’ll live a long time, too.
That little Dominic, oh boy, I was just thinking how next Christmas is going to be. LOL I love the yogurt picture. =) I don’t think the outside of my car looks too bad, but the inside? Uh-oh, don’t look! Fall leaves are everywhere, not to mention spills and junk. Someone ought to take that to the car wash for me, don’t you think? Have a fabulous weekend!
Lots of wonderful loves! Thankfully my girls never minded Santa, but then we didn’t always go every year. I worked retail before they were born, so the last place I wanted to be was in a Mall. LOL
Roseanne, you are so blessed to have such a large and loving family! There aren’t many of my family left and really miss them especially around the holidays. I love the picture of you and your aunt. You favor a lot! Thanks for sharing! I bought one of those passes so I can take both my cars any time of the month. Thankfully we haven’t had snow yet!! But we’ve had lots of nasty rain and leaves!! I too just discovered that thread magic! I’m working on my first wool project by hand and it is SO very helpful!
Great pics of Dominick. Always make me smile. I would add Jana DeLeon Miss Fortune series, they actually make me laugh out loud, Karen MacInerney, Wendy Meadows, Arlene Sachitano,
Just love that photo of Auntie and you… I think you are wearing a Christmas turtleneck. I have two of those and my hair is white like Vernell’s.
Never heard of cosy mysteries. See learning all the time. And Dominic has such a sweet look about him all the time. Funny how kids don’t like Santa at first.
Wow, your family has terrific genes for aging! But poor little Dominic looks so tiny in the chair and the sleigh! But still so dang cute…made me smile…thank you!
A clean car – always a wondrous thing. Huzzah for family parties! I’m looking forward to one this weekend! What a wonderful thing to enjoy!
I was looking for cozy mystery author suggestions 🙂 Thank you for the list! What a wonderful family gathering and how nice for so many to be able to get together still. The Dominic photos are super cute as always!
Lovely post…and BTW: nothing wrong with missing loved ones!
Hello Roseanne, How blessed you are to have such a large and loving family. You and your Aunt look beautiful and rather a lot alike. It is also so special that you all still get together at least once a year, I know that I miss that special family of mine quite often. I also totally understand how you can miss your Mother every day. It has been just a couple weeks plus the year since my Father passed away and I miss him every single day! Thank you so much for sharing each of your loves this week. They always make me smile and think about the things that I love in my own life. Have a fabulous day!
I love that picture of you and your mom. And no, you should NOT be over it! A mom is a mom forever. And that boy! too too cute! I have to admit, sometimes I end up wearing my yogurt too!
I’ve never stopped missing my dad who died 26 years ago, and many times we still talk about him, and what he would have thought of today’s world. So glad you got to have your mom for such a good long time – and those aunts, too! A clean car is something my hubby loves, too, and I drove through a big mud puddle on Monday. Guess where we went on Tuesday, lol! Cute Dominic pictures! Happy Thursday, Roseanne!
What a sweet post. I miss my parents everyday and they have been gone many years. What a big family you have-how fun at gatherings. The thread magic is such a gift. Dominic is such a wonderful age and very cute. Enjoy the season! mary
You miss being able to just reach out and talk which will always be missed. Loss takes it’s own time, don’t let anyone tell you to rush it. You were lucky to have her, weren’t you? Do you watch the shows where a soul reaches out to their loved ones? We know souls continue on after the body is gone. Great list of likes, there is quite a family resemblance, and 90’s for three sisters? Makes you take care of yourself doesn’t it? That old joke, if I’d known I would live this long, I’d have taken better care of myself!
Roseanne — you’ve got some great longevity genes in you — you go girl! Oh Dominic, be still my heart — so sweet! I don’t know what I’d do without my mom — she is helping me out as I type this. Hugs to you!
Whoo hoo you will live long and get lots of quilting done with those genes in your family!! Glad the thread magic helped out:) Have a great rest of the week.
Yay….my Dominic fix — what a cutie! You aunt looks fantastic — and what a blessing for you to have your mom so long! I’ll send you a picture of Evelyn with Santa!
I agree with Kathleen — you have some longevity in your family tree! We wash our cars in the winter on the warmer days when we know the doors won’t freeze shut – haha. Yes, we do dry the doors and whatnot, but sometimes they still freeze. Most of the time, the car just waits in all its dirty glory. I read some of those authors; great books when I want a fun, fast read.
That’s a lot of long lives in your family tree. You are quite lucky to have had your mom and your aunties so long. I get the car wash thing – my husband keeps saying “I should get this done”. I guess it means I should get it done…we’ll see. Happy day to you both! Glad thread heaven is making Sue sing.
