I Love Thursday #31 – Happy May

This is our 31st post of things we love for the week.  We post these loves each Thursday along with LeeAnna on her blog at Not Afraid of Color.  Several friends also share on a weekly basis – be sure to check them out.  You will surely find inspiration.

Thursday

Love #1

Pay it forward day!  What – who knew Facebook had such a thing.  But indeed, it was Pay it Forward Day last Saturday on FB.  Kindness is king and it is a choice we each make with every interaction.  It kind of goes along with last week’s being a rainbow in someone’s cloudy day, don’t you think?!  I have the opportunity to be kind to someone (children) so often in my job luckily enough.  The kids come into my office for an elevator key after some sort of injury.  Rather than making them walk to the correct area, I usher them to a seat and bring the info/key to them.  It’s a small thing but it gives me a chance to speak to them for a bit as well.  So, how were you kind to someone recently?

Love #2

Cacti in bloom!  Just how many cacti in bloom am I exposed to in Wisconsin, you may ask.  None.  Zero.  Nada.  Thankfully, I have been enjoying the photos that Karen (Tu-Na Quilts) has been sharing from her Arizona home.  Today, I have a lovely photo to share from a wonderful friend in Tempe.

Love #3

Tulips and forsythia!  Actually opening and starting to bloom!  I don’t need to say any more – the pictures speak for themselves.  Soon they will be so beautiful it will take your breath away.

Love #4

Birdies!  Have you noticed how chatty they are lately?  Like there’s been a longgggg winter and they are thrilled to be alive.  I can remember in my very first house that had a ton of trees surrounding it (read that to say LOTS OF LEAVES TO RAKE in the Fall), the morning doves would always be cooing way before sunrise.  Of course, then I wanted to sleep in – back in the days when I could actually sleep – so I found them annoying.  Now, I cherish the sounds of the birds and actually listen for the cardinal call outside my work window.  They are really singing Spring is Here, Spring IS Here.

Love #5

QALings.  Are you thinking about a new project or wanting to start a new QAL?  I have two good friends that are starting new QALs worthy of a look.  The first one, by Tish at Tish’s Adventures in Wonderland is called Fireburst Mystery quilt.  She just shared information about how much fabrics you’ll need – so you can easily still participate.  Tish also has a Facebook page for sharing all the great details and tips from others.  The second one is from Sandra at mmm Quilts.  Sandra also just shared fabric and tips for her QAL Plus Playtime, and her pattern was published in the free eZine Modern by the Yard #7.  Details are found on both websites.  If you are considering joining either or both, please let me know in the comments!  We can commiserate together.

Love #6

Our little Dominic was over last Friday, and he was gifted a new, nifty blue hat.  He won’t be needing to wear one for warmth much longer, but rather to keep his little ears from drafts.  This was loving made by our friend, Theresa.  And so quickly too!!  He was looking at me like when are you going to pick me up Auntie Rose?!!  So I did. ~smile~

Love #5.5

I had a late minute picture to add of Dominic and his buddy the black lab, Zeus.  Dominic just LOVES Zeus and I think the feeling is mutual – just adore this photo!

  1. I’m so glad you put Dominic on the list again. What would a week be without him! 😊

  2. Okay I’ve come out from under my rock to find out you do these posts too?? I only do one once a month, but they are wonderful to write and to do daily (in my head) right? Totally with you on several of your like/loves: birds YESS! Orioles are at the hummingbird feeder all day now, love their brilliant plumage. And forsythia her is stunning right now, in full-on glory, tulips just gorgeous as well. Okay I came for the NQBBH, but this caught my eye…ya know…

  3. We’ve been out of town the last few days, so I’m just now getting caught up on my blog reading! I love forsythia, too – they always let us know that Spring is here, don’t they? Cute picture of Dominic and Zeus! I’d agree that they like each other!

Wonderful loves! I agree with all of them, and my favorite is cactus! I’m happier with actual ones, but I’ll take photos, too. Amazingly, not a cactus but a succulent, I bought a Jade plant here 7 years ago, when I first bought my house. The thing has grown into quite a bush! I’d like to repot it in a newer pot, one that has nice fresh additional dirt, but I’m scared to death it will keel over dead, if I do! For now, I’m leaving a good thing alone, but I have had Jade keel over dead on me, and I am dithering. I’m afraid to even trim it up! If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, right? =)

I am with you on the tulips and forsythia – just check out my last blog post!! That Dominic is a cutie, with and without Zeus!!!

  6. Love the baby with the dog! Isn’t it wonderful when the spring flowers come. and the birds!
Here it is the wood pigeons who do their cooing and courting – flapping all over the garden, til you finally decide you may as well get up!
