I Love Thursday #236 Blessings Plenteous

This is the 236th post of things we love for the week. We post each Thursday along with LeeAnna from Not Afraid of Color. Several additional friends also share on a weekly basis ā€“ be sure to check them out as you will surely find something to inspire you. “From the fullness of His grace, we have all received one blessing after another.” John 1:16

Love #1

Capture your heart! Haven’t you viewed something that caught your eye and you pursued it based on the outward appearance? I recall seeing a gooooood-looking guy walking past my friends and me. I actually stopped speaking and my mind went blank. My friends teased me, asking if I thought he was good-looking. Uhh, yeah. Duh! Take a look at him – he is mind-numbingly gorgeous. I never got the chance to see if my heart would or could be captured, darn it. He had eyes only for his girlfriend/wife (maybe it was his sister?!). Whatever. His loss. This meme is a good metaphor for life to pursue what your heart desires.

Love #2

Potential resolution? This meme struck me as overwhelmingly powerful and yet so very simple, and perfect to share with our Thursday group. Imagine leaving a small handprint on 365 lives in a positive way. You just never know what a “good morning” or a smile that reaches your eyes might do. Of course, I have a tale to share. While recently waiting for Sue, a granddaughter and grandmother came in together. The granddaughter said, “good morning” to two adults facing her. Neither adult replied. The granddaughter asked her grandmother, “how can someone not respond to good morning?”

That simple question actually made me cry. I stewed over that question and finally had to get up to collect a tissue so I would stop sniffing (I don’t have COVID – I’m just crying). The tissues were right next to the granddaughter, but she would not meet my eye. As I had to step back to allow someone to pass, I connected with the grandmother’s eyes. I smiled and said, “good morning to you both, and Happy Thanksgiving.” While I can’t answer for those two would didn’t respond, I can silently assure the granddaughter and grandmother that not everyone acts like that. I moved back to my chair with a smile on my face and a lighter heart.

Love #3

Holiday traditions! LeeAnna asked us to share a favorite movie or show. My favorite holiday movie that I like to watch any time of the year is The Holiday. It has a nice story and I adore all of the actors. Our other tradition is the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train. It literally runs directly through our backyard – we can see and hear it from our patio. The train brings carolers to our local train station where songs are sung and food is collected to share with those in need. Kids and adults share the wonder of the season . . . and sometimes it even snows.

Alas, there might be a railroad strike that will cancel this event!! It’s planned to happen on December 8th. I hope it is able to still go on and the strike is resolved.

Love #4

Giggle! I seem to have used a lot of aluminum foil this long weekend. It’s great for keeping the oven clean from pie spillage plus it is great to recycle.

Love #5

Our littles . . . play in the basement when the weather is nasty outside. One day, Addison rides her tricycle, while another day she plays in the dollhouse with Dominic. Yes, he’s crawling out the front door! On the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, Addison had to go to preschool. She sang, “Mom is cool, and I want to go to school. Yay!” While his sister is away, Chase had his crib converted to a toddler bed. He celebrated with his brother – they were both delighted. Then, they headed outside for some fresh air. Dominic is happy to give his little bro a push.

The 2022 Thanksgiving photo is a special one. Addison selected her outfit by herself. It includes a Halloween shirt because it’s orange and has a pumpkin, black leggings with hearts on them, a special necklace, and her hair has been curled just like Momma’s hair. Colty was happy to represent Batman and help Chase with the motorcycle. Finally, Thanksgiving was over so it was time to bring in the Village totes. Bring on Christmas! There are only FOUR Thursdays left in 2022. EEK!

  1. Hi Roseanne. I loved your post this week and will admit to sniffling myself when I read of the granddaughter not having her Good Morning responded to. So sad to think that some people are too wrapped up to respond. Your reaction was perfect! The littles are growing so much. Bring on the Village! Iā€™m ready to see it again. Love the Canadian Pacific train and your choice of movies. šŸ¤—

  2. I had a tear for #3 but not till I read what you did, Roseanne…so sweet, I had a laugh out loud at #4 and a smile on my face all the way through #5. What a totally engaging post for me!! Thank you.

I can’t believe how big the kids are getting! GASP!!! Addison is quite the little lady, isn’t she? I love that you greeted the grandmother and granddaughter. Brad gets annoyed when we are walking and I say “good morning” to all the folks at the park. The ones that ignore me, well I just say a louder and more jubilant greeting when I see them again. I’m a weirdo like that. Have a wonderful weekend my dear friend! Hugs!

  4. I love that Indian proverb. Must remember. That good morning story is so sad, but good for you doing what you did to make it better. Lovely littles pics – they will have so many good memories to look back on. And totes! Looks like, as my Dayna likes to say, Santa is going to barf up Christmas all over the house”!!

  5. Sally says:

Oh, bad puns! Rob loves that sort of stuff. LOL. I love the idea of having acts of kindness having an impact on so many people.

  6. Chrisknits says:

What sweet faces! I expect we will get the Christmas going on Sunday, but I might start bringing out my quilts tomorrow as Squish and I roam the house.

  7. I so agree with your Love #2. If you can be anything, be kind! As always, love the pictures of your littles. And Addison knows that “you gotta be you!” Wear what make you happy!

  8. Your memes may be funny but so true! We should all take your example and say something nice to someone in need. No reason to be rude. Love seeing the kids again!!

  9. Gail Sheppard says:

How could I not know about the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train? I love how this train goes through your community!!! And I know you don’t live in Canada!!! I’ll have to look up the movie!
Thanks for sharing the precious pictures of the kidlets! They are growing so fast!!!
Hugs … and a “Good Morning” to you (even though it’s afternoon when I’m writing this and evening where you are! šŸ™‚

  10. I love that you noticed what was happening in the waiting room and took the time to say something kind to the girl and her mother, Roseanne! Little things make a big difference! I haven’t seen that movie, but now I want to. Cute littles – have to love Addison’s sense of style!

  11. LA Paylor says:

oh how strong the question was from the little girl. Love your reaction, you ole softy! I’d probably boohoo out loud! I meant to mention the holiday… just love it
is that a challenge for us, 365 days, 365 acts of kindness…. I am so low right now it’s hard to think who I’d do one for but even if it was just my husband or poodle, or a friend I zoomed with that day, a card sent…. I think it might help my health…. let’s all take on that challenge!

Great recount about the Good morning incident. Loved it. The kids are gorgeous, they bring such life to us without even knowing it.

  13. Kathleen McCormick says:

I love your good morning story – and that you made it a good morning for that little one who got no response. I often wondered about the people who didn’t respond to my son’s enthusiastic “hellos” from across the street. The kiddos are just a joy – so fun to see how they grow and that Chase is now in a big boy bed!

  14. Such fun memes today, Roseanne! And the grandmother/granddaughter touched my heart. I agree with the granddaughter. One of my favorite sayings is “If you see someone without a smile, give them one of yours!” I try to live by that, and always speak when spoken to or even initiate that speech!! Thanks for sharing the pics of the littles. My it looks cold there! It’s chilly here today after the tornadoes blew through Tuesday night. We only had heavy rain and some wind here, thankfully. Have a great weekend!

  15. Laura says:

Only four Thursdays! When you put it that way…I feel behind not Christmas decorating yet!

Beautiful post, Roseanne! There is no need for rudeness…quite the opposite! šŸ™‚

  16. Rochelle Summers says:

Another great post. I do try my best to smile and nod to people I see. A smile does cheer me up, too. The train going behind your house is interesting. It must be so cool to see it all lighted up in the Christmas season. And foil man. That is one funny meme. I love those 4 kids. They almost aren’t little’s any more. I am feeling the rush of Christmas and having a hard time focusing on finishing projects instead of starting new ones. LOL. Hope that village goes up nicely and is enjoyed for a good long month. Hugs.

  17. Wendy says:

Great post, Roseanne, and a sweet story about the good morning, and how you turned that around. The foil meme – haha! I have watched that movie (gasp!), so it’s on my list now. The littles, of course, are a delight and growing way too fast! Four Thursdays?!!! Eek is right!

  18. Helen says:

Do one good act of kindness each day… Surely I can do that. It’s a good goal.

  19. Linda says:

What a sweet story about “good morning.”. I watched my Mom do kind things to strangers, and I learned from her that if you can catch someone’s eye and either nod or smile at them, they usually respond. Your Littles are just too adorable! Those bins look interesting – enjoy decorating!

  20. Vicki in MN says:

That was so sweet of you to notice the grandmother and granddaughter needed a good morning from you! Such a good reminder for us all to just show a kind gesture or kind word to others. Happy December! I hope you get to see the Holiday train pass by this year.

  21. Karla says:

    the kids are super cute!
