I Love Thursday #222 Prolific Blessings

This is the 222nd post of things we love for the week. We post each Thursday along with LeeAnna from Not Afraid of Color. Several additional friends also share on a weekly basis – be sure to check them out as you will surely find something to inspire you. “From the fullness of His grace, we have all received one blessing after another.” John 1:16

Service! We are all given just 24 hours each day. How we choose to spend those hours are often dictated by our needs, like paying for housing, food, and transportation – so we work. Some are fortunate to spend their working hours doing something they love with people they enjoy. I am just that fortunate! I would, however, love to participate in more service. Making quilts to donate is one aspect that is fulfilling . . . but I still long to do more. What should I do that would best fit my qualifications? I am grappling with that dilemma but I know that the perfect opportunity will be revealed at the perfect time. I’d like to prepay some rent and satisfy my debt from when I wasn’t able to serve. My accounting degree requires balanced assets, after all.

Cherry bites! Or should I say, strawberry bites?! I like cherries just fine but I wouldn’t cross the road for a slice of cherry pie. Well, I probably would . . . especially if it was served a la mode . . . and freshly baked. Instead, I chose strawberry pie filling because fresh strawberries aren’t quite ready yet. This recipe is easy peasy! It was ready to go into the oven as soon as it was pre-heated to 375. Bite-sized? Well, I guess it depends on your bite. Too big for one bite for me for sure! We tested this out as a quick treat for our Sunday crowd. You just never know where they might turn up again! Everything is good with coffee, right?!

Long-term plans and little steps! I am a person who always plans . . . sometimes years in advance. I often ponder about something that may happen in 2024 (a trip to Disney World when Colt is four). Should we stay at one of the Disney properties or rent a house with a nice kitchen and private pool? If I retire, how should I spend my free time? Our littles spring to mind, of course, but that earlier mention about service nags at me too. Anyway, whatever the goal is, time will pass. You will achieve it, one little step at a time. It’s kind of similar to the trip home seems shorter than the same trip going – why is that?!

Love #4

Hybrid cow?? I saw this on Facebook and laughed right out loud. I love cows! What do you suppose this cow was doing? The person who posted the picture offered a few possible answers. Someone guessed that she has a headache. I thought it may be possible that she has two brothers that are causing her to give herself a time-out away from them. Any guesses? I hope it made you giggle.

Our littles . . . came for a little visit! It’s not like they were actually tired but they told Auntie Sue, night-night. Auntie Sue happily covered them up with a couple of quilts and told them, night, night. Seconds later, the quilts were discarded. Addison was happy to pose with one of her babies that remain at our house. It is aptly called Blue Baby. Colty was so happy to make some special birthday cookies for Auntie Sue. She received a festive Bert-shaped cookie while Colt and I chose The Count. Ah, ah, ah.

Poor Chase baby. He had a ROUGH morning recently. Not only did he get woken up too early but he had an ear infection. Don’t you think he’s looking at his momma and asking, WHY?!! Dominic points the way to the fire truck that’s coming down the road (in case you can’t hear the siren). Finally, Addison was a bit nervous about her first pedicure with momma. Happily, all went well and her toes are the same hot pink as her top (and as momma’s toes)! Addison wishes each of you a Happy Thursday!

Late to the party, but I’m going for the plug in hybrid cow…they don’t run very fast though, not good for the open highway. Trust you to find the strangest photo! LOL I hope Chase is feeling much better by now, poor tyke looked absolutely miserable about it all! Thank you for the weekly “fix”…feeling much better myself having seen the little ones…

  2. Poor little Chase but such happy other littles. Your post is filled with introspection Roseanne. Like you, I find myself thinking of what I can to to serve. I have been changing my priorities these past couple of months and need to re-evaluate my life and make some decisions I think. Enjoy your weekend Roseanne and Sue. Do have some fun and more of those Strawberry Bites 😉

The cow is scratching his head! LOL. I too am a planner and in fact I always like to have a challenge project going. Before we retired I never had time to have a hobby other than I tried to knit, but the job was extremely demanding so not a lot of time for that. Then we were concerned about retiring $$$ but that is not a problem. Now the days and years have flow by – 23 years of retirement and so much accomplished and so much fun. I still plan and exercise. I am blessed to have a wonderful housekeeper so I really have fun playing everyday.

Thinking back how to give back is a wonderful idea. The secret to a long retirement life is to find the thing you love doing and pursue it! And hopefully stay away from stress!

Have a great week-end and a wonderful post! I agree with Laura on Chase……Hugs

  4. Great and wonderful loves this week, Roseanne! LOVE that cow meme! Gave me a good laugh this morning! LOL Great pics of the littles, but poor baby Chase. I hope he feels much better soon. That is some ear infection to make his face swell like that. Have a fun weekend!

Those bites look delicious! That cow is hilarious! I also want to do more service – when is there the time!

  6. LA Paylor says:

those pastries look awesome but I think all the ingredients have corn syrup (regular powdered sugar is made with corn starch) so… will have to dream of them. Oh you know I also love a cow… let’s see… she was headed straight ahead and something got in her way? She is trying to push that pole back out of the field? Once we were camping in Alberta Canada, and in the night an elk attacked the tent with his antlers. I imagined he was mad that all these humans came into his forest

  7. Lots of food for thought in this one, Roseanne. It is splendid that you are so compassionate and want to give like this. When I first retired, I volunteered for three years at older grandson’s school, and I took a 10 week Paliative Care course for volunteers and helped an elderly woman once a week for almost a year till she passed. That was very special. I keep thinking I should do more too…what you give, you get back is what I know about it. Oh, my, lovely kids on beautiful quilts!

  8. You’ve got some great thoughts about serving others and planning for the future, Roseanne! I felt like that right after I retired, and found something to do as a volunteer that was right up my teacher training alley, and you will, too. Those cherry/strawberry bites look yummy! I’m going to save that recipe. Lots of fun at your house! I bet there’s no end of fun that can be had with all the quilts!

  9. Really good thoughts on service, especially the one about not doing it in your spare time. I wish I could do more to help newcomers to Canada, specifcally refugees. Cherries and strawberries…yum. Strawberries are full on here, was just thinking this morning when I made my smoothie that I need to pick some up! Great photos as always of life with the littles.

Planning, isn’t something I always do, I overthink with what if’s. But I am trying to plan now. Giving to others is so fulfilling. There are so many things to do, depending on where you live. Oh poor Chase, and as usual the other kiddos are super cute. How fun Addison getting a pedi with mama. Oh and those cookies are adorable.

  11. Chase looks so miserable! I hope he recovers quickly!
Free time in retirement????? Ha, ha! Having said that, I do believe service is very important! Great post!

Maybe the cow has an itch? 🙂

I love the photo of Addy and her dolly!! I hope my GD loves dolls, I bought her one for her upcoming first BD.

  13. Dawn Tornes says:

That cow is so funny with the captions! Time out standing at the ‘wall’! The ‘littles’ are all so cute and growing! Poor Chase, he doesn’t look happy. Hope you have a great weekend.

  14. Wendy says:

That poor cow – she was probably sewing loads of blocks – without bobbin thread! We’ve all been there, right? Love those littles!

Service is one of the best things we all can do. I am on a hiatus from volunteering with any organization until we get more settled on the island. But, I understand that nagging feeling that you aren’t doing enough, or what is the plan?? I believe the right opportunities come to us or we go to them when it is time. The kids are adorable, but poor Chase! I Hope is ear is better and you all have a fabulous weekend!
