I Love Thursday #117 Abounding Blessings

Happy Birthday to Chris! This is the 117th post of things we love for the week.  We post these loves each Thursday along with LeeAnna on her blog at Not Afraid of Color.  Several additional friends also share on a weekly basis – be sure to check them out.  You will surely find something to inspire you.

Firefighters!  I saw this on Facebook and it lists the source as ABC so I believe it is true.  Please Lord, help get these fires under control.  Some rain would be greatly appreciated, along with some lower temperatures and calmer winds, please.  Thank you all firefighters as they are truly heroes.

Firefighters!

My cousin shared this on Facebook, and it cracked me up.  Yes, we really could cripple an entire generation.  We could even add a few other things to switch to beyond stick shift vehicles and cursive.  How about rotary dial telephones, polaroid pictures, a record player, or a manual typewriter?!!  I’ll bet you can think of a few things as well.

crazy busy

Crazy busy!  This little picture was on Melva’s website when I recently visited and it also cracked me up.  Sue and I just had TWO whole weeks off for the holidays.  While she has always enjoyed a holiday break from teaching, I usually only took a day or two off.  Wowee!  It was fabulous but I kept thinking, I’m not getting very much accomplished or “I don’t have time to be this busy!”  HAHA!  I wouldn’t change one second of the break and cannot wait to try it again next year.  And speaking of Melva – I was, in the first line – her sew-along starts on January 23rd.  Twenty blocks over approximately fifteen months with precious letters shared every three weeks – sounds intriguing, doesn’t it?!

Precious Alice!  We were lucky to partake in a visit from a sweet one-year-old and her momma, here for the holidays from Texas.  Remember Alice and her Pumpkin quilt for her first birthday?  It was so fun to see Alice, oh yeah, and of course her momma, too.  Her daddy was here as well but had to return home before the two followed right before the new year.  Here is the sweet reunion of a very tired sweet girl with her daddy, who was waiting for them at the airport.  It’s hard to say who missed who more?!

Sharing opinions!  Isn’t that one of the best things about the quilting community?  You ask a question and you actually get responses.  Not just flippant ones, but thoughtful and respectful ones.  I have been tossing around the idea of making a Harry Potter quilt.  The issue is that I haven’t read one single book – I know nothing about HP.  I am certain that throughout the book series, clues are given about the main characters.  I guess I could use Wikipedia and other internet tools but I thought someone may have a suggestion.  Who are the main characters that absolutely MUST be included?  Any fun, little-known facts to share about the books?  Right now, it’s just an idea floating around in my head . . . I could return the favor on topics like Batman or Wicked (Wizard of Oz).  Which makes me wonder, why haven’t we made a Batman quilt yet??!!

Love #6

OH!  So many photos to chose from this week.  A tough issue to have, but someone had to deal with it.  Addison’s birthday was Saturday but that deserves its own post on Friday.  Dominic was stamping on paper with an INK PAD – his momma is so good and patient.  His sister got a stroller from Santa but Dominic was the good big brother and pushed the babies in it.  Did I mention he pushed them quickly, as a blur went by that we think was Dominic?!  He is just following the example of his Gaga and momma while they’re sitting in a real stroller.  Zip, zip, zip – who can focus on any scenery?!

Thankfully, Dominic came over for a visit with his Big Wheel and took a short break for Sesame Street.  He and his sister played together so nicely with their new Little People.  There’s always time to squish behind Auntie Sue and giggle while doing so, right?!  Addison answered the phone that was ringing for her, and then had time for some Puffs with Auntie Sue.  I.adore.that.pink.hoodie.  Finally, Addison does occasionally get to sit in the highchair to enjoy her cup and more Puffs during Sesame Street.  We all took a break for those 30 minutes. ~smile~

Great post and love all the photos of the kids especially Dom zooming with the stroller! That meme about cursive writing and stick shift is so funny!!! We’ve thought about cursive writing being a secret language in a few years but hadn’t considered stick shift–LOL! Have a great week!

  2. I read all the HP books but don’t remember a whole lot from them. But two of the therapists I supervise are big HP fans. I’ll have to check with them.

Firefighters are amazing (and probably a little crazy). Crazy busy! I don’t dislike it… but I’m not sure I’d say I like it, either! Love my stick! (and options on quilts). Good luck with the HP quilt! I look forward to see what you come up with.

I never really got into Harry Potter so can’t help you there. I did see some of the movies but wasn’t my thing. It is so nice that some of our fire fighters are going to Australia to help they need all the help they can get!

  7. I do hope the fire fighters are on their way to help Australia. The fires are so terrible. My kids grew up reading Harry Potter but I’ve never read them. I always say I’m going to start the series but haven’t done it so far. Happy Birthday to Chris!

Oh my goodness! Harry Potter is one of my very favorite book series. I’ve read them all over and over and over. If you’re interested I could totally talk to you about major things to include. Also, if you haven’t found it yet, check out the website fandom in stitches. They have tons of great paper piecing harry potter blocks. Have a great week!

  9. Can we start the year over Roseanne? Then I would have a Love! LOL

  10. I’m retired, so no more work ever, but even so the days fill right up! So glad you enjoyed your time off over the holidays, Roseanne, and hope your “re-entry” was smooth! Addison’s hoodie is definitely adorable, and of course, Dominic made that stroller zoom along, because isn’t that how all vehicles go? 🙂

You always have the best pictures and the ones of the littles and Alice are no exception. If you don’t want to read Harry Potter books, they are out in movies. I think you could watch the first one and learn most of what you need. I am heartbroken over the Australian fires. Both residents and animals will be suffering for years to come as a result of this. I wish all the firefighters safety and an angel to take care of them.

  12. Vicki in MN says:

Fires can destroy so much, so sad. The littles are adorable as always ❤️.

  13. Denise says:

    Great photos this week. 🙂

Yes, so much of life becomes a blur, little Dominic. I was so happy when I read that Canada had sent firefighters to help out in Australia. Horrendous situation there.
I think that photo of little Alice and dad is simply wonderful.
Don’t you love having quilting ideas percolating! I will check out Melva and her piecing stitch along. Thanks for the link.

  16. Wonderful loves! Harry Potter is so fun. I stopped at 3 but keep thinking I should get back to it. You could watch the movies – to see what you think. They are fun and entertaining.

  17. What a fun post – so many great likes. And yes, big thanks and prayers for those fighting the fires in Australia, and prayers for rain for them. As always, those littles are adorable. Happy Birthday to Chris!

  18. Colette says:

Happy Birthday Chris! I love the pic of the firefighters. I know my mom said a bunch of the smoke jumpers from Oregon, and Northern California had left before New Years to go fight the fires in Australia. I see they got some rain which is a blessing. Great pics of the kiddos, I have a dog that likes to squish. LOL Happy Birthday Miss Addison!
