I Love Thursday #112 Abundant Blessings

This is the 112th post of things we love for the week.  We post these loves each Thursday along with LeeAnna on her blog at Not Afraid of Color.  Several additional friends also share on a weekly basis – be sure to check them out.  You will surely find something to inspire you.

Love #1

Rules for being an adult?!  I guess I am mostly an adult, according to this listing a friend posted on Facebook.  Some of this is true although I’m definitely not ALWAYS annoyed (just sometimes!) and everything except quilting sometime IS a chore.  Seriously, college students do look like they’re only 12-years-old and so do some new doctors.

Adult??

P.S.  I do have a favorite spatula, although I have an issue with that word.  My spatula is spoon-like, to get the last of the mayo out of the jar.  It’s not a flipper for turning over a grilled cheese sandwich.  Both of those devices are called a spatula.  I don’t understand why when we could just give one of them a different name – call the flipper a flipper, for example.  My friends and I had a two-hour discussion (seriously!) about this issue early one morning.  We didn’t solve the dilemma but we did recognize the seriousness of the issue it may become in certain situations.  Pass the spatula – hurry!  Not that one, the OTHER spatula.  See – it could be an issue!

Book tasting menu!  Our sixth-grade students created Book Tasting Menus for two of their favorite books.  I thought it was such a cute idea.  They started with an appetizer or name of the book, followed by the Chef’s name or title of the book.  First taste thoughts include their thoughts on the cover art.  It’s sweet walking down the hall and seeing all the friendly students in a chef hat!

Reverse Advent calendar!  I thought this was a nice idea to share although perhaps just a day or two too late for this Advent season.  I’ll bet you could find a homeless shelter near you that would be thrilled to have a donation basket similar to this.

Love #4

Fun on the walls!  Sue had to have a blood test – four vials! – and saw these painted on the wall.  I imagine it calmed a few little people and made some bigger ones smile.

Love #5

Dominic is our big boy and a hat model.  Clearly, he is thrilled with his new hat!  We got to spend Thanksgiving night with both loves while mom and dad went shopping.  Of course, I had to share their Thanksgiving 2019 official photos. Addison’s sweet onesie says Gobble, Gobble.  Addison was rockin’ the bellbottom disco 1970 pants and even shared a little love with Auntie Rose.  Is there a baby in amongst all those toys??  Finally, Gaga (Grandma Janice) had the funniest video of Dominic laughing.  It’s quite entertaining.  We love our littles.

Our other Linky Parties can be found by clicking the link above or along the sidebar on our website for more quilting fun – check out what our friends are up to.  Like/follow us on our Facebook page and you can share your photos of what you’re working on.  We would love to see them!

  3. Wow, that must have been some spatula discussion. I have a slotted spoon I use for near everything – in both houses – weird. Lovely children and lovely loves….happy thursday albeit late in the day.

  4. Sally says:

Interesting advent calendar! I have several spatulas designated for different tasks!

ahhh yes the burning issue of the day… I am totally happier to figure out what to call those tools rather than hear stuff on news… oy vey… I must be an ostrich with head in the studio to survive. I agree on many of the adulting identifiers… spots showing up on my face and hands… like there was a timer on it. Pain from regular movements. I have the

  6. I love the idea of the book tasting menu. What a great idea for young readers! The reverse advent calendar is a wonderful idea. I’m not sure about you, but most days I don’t like being an adult! Everything was so much easier!!

  7. Denise says:

PS, I could have participated in the spatula drama.

  8. Denise says:

  10. Vicki in MN says:

I think I call those things a rubber scraper(for scraping out the mayo jar!).

  11. This is me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Enough Said Bad Thursday

  12. I have a spatula just like you’re describing, Roseanne, and I never knew what to call it, lol! It is definitely my favorite spatula! I’m definitely an adult going by your list there. Loved the book menu those kids created! Makes me want to go back into my classroom – for a few minutes. 🙂 Enjoyed your pictures of the kids, too!

  13. Rochelle Summers says:

Thank you so much for such a great Thursday “Love”. Kids, school, adult questions, and the reverse advent calendar are so great. Looked like the kids were having a great time (and maybe the adults, too!!).

  14. Jocelyn Thurston says:

I think it is a toss up as to who has more fun, those kiddies or you two. Such happy faces all round. Love that adult list and a few of them definitely apply…more as you get older. The doctors now look especially young to me…I’ve asked and been assured they have finished med school, LOL.

  15. Well darn it all my comment disappeared… don’t you hate that? I love your spatula ‘rant’; I actually LOL reading it. As always love the little video – did Addy pull off the ‘v’?! The book report à la menu idea is a great one, I’d steal it but oh yeah right, I am no longer teaching! The donations poster is a good one; will remember that next time I’m in the grocery store. (don’t worry about responding; I know you’re swamped).

  16. Shannon M Conley says:

That reverse advent calendar is fantastic! What a great project! And I love that “adult” list. I’m not always annoyed, but I also have a favorite spatula (And a favorite flipper, but you’re right- two separate things), and college students do look 12. Have a great week! Hugs to the little ones! How is your Christmas cactus?

  17. In our house, there are rubber spatulas and plastic spatulas – that’s how we differentiate. Love the loves for this week, especially those two littles!

  18. Barbara Esposito, The Quilted B says:

Oh Roseanne – you made me literally LOL again. I can see how the spatula miscommunication could lead to potential disaster! For a bit of clarity, we call the one you use for the mayo jar a “spoonula”. Saves all kinds of confusion!
And I think you need to frame that picture of you and Addison! It melted my heart! Love your Thursday updates! xx

  19. karenfae says:

love your list of things and the little one! had a laugh about the spatula

  20. I also have a favorite spatula and am annoyed a lot!! Gaining 30 lbs overnight seems to be the rule…thanks for making me smile today…i needed that hugs, Julierose

  21. Colette says:

Oh your loves made me giggle. A long time ago when I was in my early 30’s this kid drove up, got out of his car to pump gas. I looked at my husband and said how is he even old enough to drive. Heck I don’t think he looks old enough to go to a public restroom unattended. I know spatula, we used to call them turners….Great pics of the sweet littles .

  22. quiltinggail says:

    Me? Definitely an adult!!! 🙂
