Honeycreeper April Challenge Color Block

Color Challenge 2020

To kick off the start of the second quarter, we are one of the featured bloggers sharing our 2020 April Color Block.  Thanks to Jen at PBJ (Patterns By Jen, not the sandwich) for sharing her ideas and patterns with all for the third year.  April’s color block is purple and is inspired by the bird, Honeycreeper.

A Honeycreeper of Fabric

As mentioned in the previous posts in the 2020 Monthly Color Challenge, we are working with this yummy fabric bundle.

2020 Monthly Colors

With only one purple in the Kaleidoscope fabric, it was fairly easy to pick our selection for the honeycreeper block.  Work began in earnest once Sue prepped and cut the fabrics for me.

Honeycreeper Chain Piecing

I am 100% certain that I am not alone in my love for chain piecing.  Being able to quickly sew many of the necessary pieces together is just fab.  Once the quick stitching was complete, it was time to match up the flying geese pieces.

First I find the center of the pieces that need to be matched by creasing them in half.  Then, I match the two centers and pin so they do not shift.  You will see this block is a variation of a block-within-a-block.

Honeycreeper Layout and Finish

Laying out the entire block before I start sewing is a necessity for me.  You just know I might sew one of those flying geese upside-down if I didn’t!  Why didn’t I think of using geese this way before this block, I ask myself??!!

Here’s our finished block all ready to join its friends on the design wall.

And speaking of friends, here is the honeycreeper with the three earlier 2020 color blocks.

To enter you must link up your block at the end of the month. Every month you enter a block gives you a chance to win. If you miss one month, don’t despair, you can still enter during the other months for a chance.

LOL. I gave up on the extra blocks of the month, I thought I could do. Stuff just happens sometimes. I am thrilled that you and Sue are continuing and am looking forward to seeing your finished quilt! Have a wonderful day!
