Happy New Year – Regatta Quilt Sew Along

Happy, Happy New Year!  It’s time for the Regatta Quilt sew along to start!  This is the no-pressure sew along with no prizes and no real end date.  Just a gorgeous quilt when it is all complete.  The original pattern is from Daniela at Block M Quilts.  Just click on the picture of the quilt directions and you’ll be able to print out a .pdf.  Here are the two colorways that Daniela has chosen for her quilts, and what originally inspired me to make my own:

Daniela is following the blog and gave her blessing for the sew along.  Who knows, maybe she’ll make a third!

So what colors are you using?  Are you going with a jelly roll or have you selected your own fabrics?  It will be so fun to see.  Here are the latest participants and a few that were on the fence and their website:

I’ll bet you are curious about what colors and fabric we decided to go with?!  Very similar to the original colorway, here is a snapshot of our fabrics that we will be making this quilting goodness from:

Boy, it’s really hard to photograph fabric color realistically!  Here’s one more shot:

RegattaColors3

If you are starting with us, your first step is to pick out your fabrics and/or color palette.  You need 19 different colors to mimic Daniela’s pattern, along with a background fabric (like white).   For those of you who having been thinking about this for a bit, like us, the first step on the pattern is to start cutting your strips.  Two each of the 19 colors, 2.5″ x WOF (width of fabric).

That’s it.  We have not started cutting our fabric yet.  Afterall, there is no pressure to get this finished . . . and yet it will not become a UFO either!  Any questions, please leave them in the comments.  Updates will be shared on the various participants websites, on our Facebook page, or on Instagram using #regattaquilt.  Let’s have some fun making a pretty quilt!

      Hi Daniela,
I am so glad you are following along and commented today! I actually thought all of this interest might just spark your need to make a third Regatta Quilt. HAHA! Myra shared her beautiful rainbow strips on Facebook yesterday. This is such a fun and easy quilt – we’ll have many to show shortly. ~smile~ Roseanne

  8. Susan says:

I’m excited to get started on this. I hope to start this week, but we’ll see. I’ve already had some upsets to my hopes, and it’s only January 1! LOL

    • Roseanne says:

      Hi Susan,
I think we’ll get going on this sometime this week. I have to work on and finish Dr Seuss first. ~smile~ Roseanne

  9. Roseanne, my oh my you have a huge list of participants! How awesome is that! I still have to pull my fabrics so I don’t have a photo to show you. I do know they will come from a variety of colors. Hang tight! Photo coming soon! 🙂

  10. Gretchen says:

My strip sets are all sewn and pressed. Tomorrow I will cut them and sew them into the flimsy. This has been a fun sewing project!

    • Roseanne says:

      Hi Gretchen!
Holy moly – you are setting a record for the quickest sew along participant! I can’t wait to see it all together. We don’t even have all the strips cut yet. ~smile~ Roseanne

  11. Happy New Year, my friend. I am falling down on my sewing jobs and blogging, but today is the first day on my new meds after a disaster with my previous meds. Hopefully these will be better and I will be back in my sewing room soon. Eager to start on Regatta and show everyone my fabrics. Sami says “Hey” to everyone.

    • Roseanne says:

      Hi Peggy!
I was worried about you. Hey Sami – backatcha. Make your mom lay low today so those new meds can get in her blood stream. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

  12. Vicki in MN says:

I am using an Island Batik strip pack and I think instead of white will use an aqua yardage IB sent that is one of the colors in the strip pack. So of course I won’t use that color strip in the quilt;) I’ll be starting later this week to sew it.

    • Roseanne says:

      Hi Vicki,
Oooh, that sounds really nice. It should certainly retain the water-ish feeling using aqua as the background color. Can’t wait to see how this comes together! ~smile~ Roseanne

  13. I’ve had a difficult time choosing my fabric, but I may take a look at my stash. I think I might be able to work with something from there. Looking forward to this!

    • Roseanne says:

      Hi Wendy,
I can see where it would be difficult. So many options would work great. Can’t wait to see what you decide on! ~smile~ Roseanne

  14. Shannon Fleming says:

My fabric will be here tomorrow! Can’t wait to get started!!!

  15. Cocoa Quilts says:

I am so glad to get this one started. I’m using a boundless jelly roll in light blues and greens.

  16. Gretchen says:

I had planned to take a picture of my fabrics before I started sewing them but of course, I forgot! My strips are looking good and I love how the white makes them pop. I don’t do facebook or instagram. I’ll make a post this evening on my blog. Happy stitching the start of the new year and may you see your bobbin is empty before you stitch a long seam!

    • Roseanne says:

      Hi Gretchen,
That just means you were anxious to get started on this new fun project – no time to spend on photos! I look forward to seeing what you decided on! ~smile~ Roseanne
