Geo Star Plaid Quilt Top – Pattern Test

When I first shared the details about being a pattern tester for the first time, everything about the project just fell into place.  We were given free fabrics from Debby at Debby Kratovil Quilts and Becca at Pretty Piney sent us the Star-Crossed Plaid pattern for free as well.  We carefully chose five of the seven Geo Pop fabrics we received.  You can see that wasn’t an easy decision by any means.  We set about making a baby-sized quilt top.

We wanted a slightly more boyish tone to our quilt top.  You can see Becca’s version here that she allowed me to share from her pattern.

As a pattern tester, our job is to read each step of the pattern and verify its veracity.  You will need only a fat-eighth piece of fabric for each individual star.  We stuck with background fabrics similar to Becca’s in gray, white, and black.

One step asked for a line to be drawn diagonally on the wrong side of the smaller fabric squares.  I carefully did so with my trusty ruler and appropriately colored removable pen.  Sewing ensued and a bit of trimming – Becca had us make four flying geese blocks at one time.

Finally, the first two blocks could be laid out for perusal.  Oh yes, this is coming along nicely and will be fabulous!  I love these Geo fabrics.

Finishing in a four by five pattern, the baby-sized quilt has a block that measures nine inches.  We had to lay out the blocks on the living room floor since the design wall was taken up by 14 Ripples blocks!

Here is our quilt top, Geo Star Plaid, which measures approximately 36″ x 45″.  Once we find the perfect backing for this project I’ll get started on quilting it.

If you would like to make your own version, check out Becca’s post and pattern!  She is also sharing versions made by other pattern testers today.  And let me give one last thank you to Debby and Becca for making this project possible.
