FMQ on Rainy Day Spirals Update
While this isn’t a finish to share with you today, we did have one earlier this week. If you’d like to see it, our Las Vegas Leaves is finished just in time for Fall enjoyment. It took us about 20 years to complete it! The finish does involve some FMQ. Yippy!
Rainy Days Spirals
Earlier in October, I asked for your opinion on how to quilt our Rainy Days project. To remind you, here is a picture of the Rainy Day flimsy. It is still hanging exactly like that in the sewing room. It’s been several weeks . . .
One Spiral or Two?
The pattern we used is 16-patch framed four-square pattern. We shortened the name to Rainy Day Spiral quilt since the original is a bit long. I created a poll and we asked if you would quilt this in one big spiral like this:
OR, like this picture is from Sew Kind of Wonderful :
There are 35 center squares, but the borders would feature a different quilting pattern.
The FMQ Poll Results:
Thank you for sharing your opinion!! The overwhelming results are:
After 32 votes were received, 31 of you suggested several smaller spirals. We did not make this our November OMG project, but I am really feeling these spirals. My hands are itching to get started. We have a few slightly different ideas for this flimsy that are spiral-ish. I want to thank you again so much for voting. Stay tuned for some updates. When the quilting bug hits you on a project, you need to just go with it. Right?!!
Here’s another spiral inspirational piece for you. These pictures are from a table runner, and the block was some peppermint candies. They make me think of my mom. ~smile~
Our other Linky Parties can be found by clicking the link or along the sidebar on our website for more quilting fun – check out what our friends are up to. Like/follow us on our Facebook page and you can share your photos of what you’re working on. We would love to see them!
Wow, we don’t usually all agree so completely! Yes, time to get your spiral on!
Hi Roseanne! I love all the spirals. Reminds me of ye olde vinyl records. Maybe you should call it Rain Dance instead. 😀
Hello Roseanne, I agree with what piecefulwendy has commented. Yet, my thought would also include a raindrop in the center of the block to highlight the quilts name. I know that is going a bit overboard and would add a lot of extra work, that is why it is only a thought! I also enjoy this quilt for its lovely bright fabrics and the fun block pattern you chose. After my last quilt, this is the type of quilt I will be making for quite some time. LOL. I will be sending you an email later, with our computer up and running properly again, I can respond properly now. Thank you for sharing and inspiring me in so many ways. Have a fabulous day!!
Overlapping spirals will look so good on that quilt. Love the colors on that quilt and the scrappy, pieced inner border.
Ooh, I can’t wait to see how this quilts up! I love those overlapping spirals, must remember that1
I think spirals will be beautiful on your rainy days quilt — I love the fabric colors — what collection did you use?
Rainy Days is the perfect name for that quilt with its soft colors; the spirals will make it look like water droplets. I can’t wait to see it, and to hear what you think of spiraling. I am going to try that sometime, so I’ll look forward to following you as you go ahead with it.
