February OMG 2019 Color-Block Quilt Top

February is here already and I wasn’t quite ready yet – it snuck up on me quietly.  Each month, Patty at Elm Street Quilts hosts a linky party called OMG or One Monthly Goal.  We have been participating successfully in her monthly link-up for over two years.  For the second OMG project for 2020, we are selecting the 2019 Color-Block quilt top and to get it quilted.

February 2019 Color-Block

Finishing in a three by four block pattern with sashing and cornerstones added, the quilt blocks each measure 12 inches.  Here is our quilt top, 2019 Color-Block.  That’s not the most creative of names – we need to come up with something better!  The quilt top was all sewn together by the end of last year but, of course, I didn’t know how to quilt it.

Enter Kathleen from Kathleen McMusing with her just recently finished quilt.  She used a flame-like quilting pattern called Heatwave.  You will really see the design the best on the backing photo.

I can promise that my quilting will definitely not be as uniform as hers, but I am going to run with the suggestion.  It turns out we had the perfect backing in our stash already, so why not get busy?!!

February 2019 Color-Block OMG

Our OMG goal for February is to layer and quilt our 2019 Color-Block piece.  We think this is the perfect goal for the second month of this new decade.  We also thank Patty for continuing OMG in 2020 as we find it very motivating and inspiring.

That is such an interesting fmq pattern to put all over the quilt. Do you stitch in the ditch firstto stabilise it or do you just quilt it with the heatwave?

Hello Roseanne, Such a fun quilting pattern to try out and make it your own! If it did not cost an arm and a leg for shipping, I would definitely ask you to quilt my quilts! I have no doubt that you will achieve this goal…I am rooting for you all the way. Oh and by the way, I am a weather forecaster also. Here in Southern Oregon we received some of the snow that is now dumping 10 inches and more in Colorado and Wyoming (relatives ) and the word is that it is going to get worse as it moves on! Be Prepared. Just trying to be helpful. Have a great day!
