Dot.Dot.Dash

I’m not a huge fan of floral fabrics.  Not there is anything wrong with florals – there are a lot of beautiful prints out there, but they never seem to find their way into our quilts often.  Now polka dots, stripes and all thing geometric – they are in my comfort range.  Like this Dot.Dot.Dash charm pack by Me & My Sister for Moda Fabric.  It is just too darn cute, and we were able to make this cute little quilt (and have enough for one more).  I think as we share more of our finished quilts you will notice a theme – heavy on the polka dots (for now).  They just speak to me – I hear them calling out, make me into a baby quilt.  So we do!  HA!

We have fallen for the Daily Special at a certain fabric website a few too many times in the past year.  In the first weeks of the new year, we sorted through the piles of charm packs and other miscellaneous cuts of fabric that were ordered without much thought.  It was more of a, oh this is cute and we NEED it for only $1.99.  Seriously, we have at least a dozen charm packs that have no plan . . . I just thought they were cute.  Add to that the 20 packs that we do actually have a plan, “for babies we don’t know yet,” as our nephew refers to any quilt that isn’t for him.

Our sorting method involves plastic bags or those zippered pouches that sheets come in.  Those rock for project bags, as they keep everything together, you can see through them easily and you can add a piece of masking tape to remind you of what/who the project is.  Sue, of course, keeps a list of all of these to-be-done projects.  It seems that something out of the blue moves to the top of the list VERY often – like the queen-size quilt for my niece in purple, and the absolutely surprising request for a queen-size quilt in blues and grays from another niece and her husband.  How do you keep your projects in check?  And organized?
P.S.  I have kept myself in-check so far this year with the willy nilly ordering of charm packs!  Kind of.
