Current Project List Update
Thankfully, our current project list is always changing. Since I’ve started writing this blog, I have exposed myself to more opportunities for quilting – from visiting quilt shops much more frequently, reading other quilting blogs, and even attending a quilt festival.
Here is our project list as I know it to be:
(cutter!) September table runner – quilt/appliqué point- Simply Woven purple queen size quilt for Betsy
- Simply Woven gray/blue queen size quilt for Andrea and Chris (not started yet)
- 16 patch/framed 4 patch baby quilt for Etsy – piecing the top
- ABC wall hanging #1 for Etsy – sashing being sewn on now
- Tote bag – planning stage, purchased the lining stabilizer
- Gray polka dot baby quilt – being hand quilted now
- Finding Nemo baby quilt – awaiting quilting
- ABC wall hanging #2 – letters being hand appliquéd now
- Grey/white elephant crib quilt for Baby J – looking for perfect fabric
- Traffic pattern, Pinwheel baby quilt – waiting to have fabric selected
- Many, MANY baby quilts waiting to be started with fabric sitting in project bags
That darn cutter item, or the September table runner as Sue knows it, is complete. I decided to machine appliqué the apples rather than doing it by hand, and I chose to wait to appliqué them at the same time as quilting. In theory, that sounded like a good idea. Why appliqué them and then quilt around them? Well, here is the reason why I shouldn’t combine them into one step – when it is all layered up, it is bulky and hard to move around easily. Huh. I didn’t think of that. Darn it! It would have been much easier to appliqué them when it was just the one layer of fabric – that is very easy to fold up to reach the center apple and to push through that narrow opening in the sewing machine. Well, I was able to get ‘er done though. Sue wanted it quilted with cross-hatch sewing so that was easy to complete in one afternoon. Hand stitch down the binding and boom. Done!

Since we finished machine quilting the green polka-dot baby quilt, and Sue sewed down the binding we have listed it in our Etsy shop. I can’t decide if it was a fluke that we have sold any quilts on Etsy, or if it may continue. I guess we have nothing to lose by listing them there . . . we’ll see.

I am back to working on the purple woven quilt. I can’t quite remember how many squares we need for the queen size quilt – I think at least 56 with one or two borders. I’m hoping we are halfway there . . . but alas we are not – 26 out of 56 complete. Once that quilt top is finished we are going to try a long-arm service (gasp!!) for the first time. Then we’ll start on the next woven quilt for Andrea and Chris in blue and grey. They are expecting their first baby in September, and I have to find fabric for the crib quilt and get that going too. Plus I’m going to sneak in a tote bag, start on the 16-patches since the 4-patches are framed, and finish up one the ABC quilt. We’d better get busy, huh?!!
