Collaboration Joins the Synergy Pattern Release

Earlier this month, our friend Preeti from Sew Preeti Quilts reached out and asked if we would follow her new pattern and make a quilt top. The deadline was just over two weeks away, and truthfully I hesitated. Sue reminded me of my motto for 2022 of no-stress sewing and quilting. In spite of that motto, I quickly replied to Preeti that yes, indeed, we will happily make her pattern. Toward that end, I am so happy we did! She released all the details in a teaser post back in January when it was published in Make Modern. She is now ready to share the stand-alone pattern with all of us. You can find all the details about Synergy in Preeit’s Etsy shop. The pattern is on sale with 25% off through April 27th so get your copy while it’s on sale!

Let me share the details about our version of Preeti’s Synergy quilt that we’re calling Collaboration.

Collaboration Synergy Anyway?!

The Oxford Languages dictionary online says that synergy means “the interaction or cooperation of two or more organizations, substances, or other agents to produce a combined effect greater than the sum of their separate effects.” A combined effect that is greater than the sum of the individual pieces. Well, isn’t that just cool?! In my opinion, Sue and I collaborate and make many things much better with a combined effect with our quilts than our separate efforts would produce. So, let’s focus some of that positive collaboration into this piece, shall we?! Here’s what we came up with when we put our heads together for our first of 35 half-blocks.

While the fabrics aren’t exactly the same, the color and composition let your eye believe they are the same once placed in the quilt.

Synergy’s Pattern – Another Show of Collaboration

I was thrilled to see that this quilt top can use jelly roll strips or 2.5″ lengths of fabric. We have a selection of jelly rolls because I have a weakness in buying them. I love that it’s a great way to use a matching line of prints that are coordinated without any thought on my part! Preeti has included a coloring sheet in her pattern and that’s something I’ve never used before. Have you? Coloring was a favorite pass time of mine when I was much younger. While we didn’t use the coloring page this time, I have some thoughts about another version. Where are my colored pencils?!

Since we were using different color values for our quilt, Sue took some time to label each strip with a number that corresponds to the colors that Preeti uses in her pattern. Her pattern is well written and easy to follow. The diagrams helped immensely and it was easy to substitute our fabrics to follow along. I am beyond wild about the colors in our fabric choices!

These gorgeous pieces are laid out on a big ruler, waiting for me to sew them up. Preeti’s pattern is designed to highlight a color wave in fabrics if you choose. The cool thing about a jelly roll is that it is already laid out for you in a pretty color wave. Our version goes from a light floral print through different values of coral, green, and blue and back again. I asked Sue if she had a favorite print or color value and she admitted that it kept changing. I said, me too! Each time I sewed two pieces together, I thought that was my favorite only to be replaced shortly thereafter.

Here is our Collaboration quilt top on the left. I’m also fascinated by the secondary pattern that emerges as quilt blocks are sewn together. I’ve taken a photo of rows three – five on the right and marked the zig-zag pattern. I will need to keep that in mind when I start quilting this piece.

Collaboration with a Synergy Pattern Giveaway

Preeti is generously giving away a free copy of her new pattern to one of our readers. All you need to do is leave a comment below and tell us what colors or values you would make your own version of Synergy. We’ll select a winner in a week. A winner has been selected – Brenda at Songbird Designs. You can see all the different variations of Synergy on Instagram by following the hashtag #synergy_quilt. There is a blog hop in progress, too! Here are the other friends that have made a Synergy version of their own:

The variety of quilt tops shared by the five of us are as diverse as we are, and they represent the vast options that make this pattern shine. Another huge plus for me is that there are some areas to let quilting shine if you like, or more likely no fear zones where quilting can take a back seat. We would all love to hear your thoughts on Synergy! Be sure to share your version on Instagram using #synergy_quilt.

I am a bright color person so I love the one at the top. However, I like scraps so maybe I’d dig in the bag and just go with what I pull out.

Your Synergy quilt is beautiful! I think I’d do r/w/b or teal/peach but not sure about a third color.

Wow! I love that the two of you selected just the right jelly roll (and that you already had it) to make this lovely version of “Synergy”. Every one I’ve seen has been impressive. I’m also impressed with how quickly you put this together…two weeks!! I bet I could do use a black, red and white jelly roll I have to make this. Congratulations on a wonderful top.

You picked the perfect jelly roll for this cute pattern! I love the prints and the colorways of it. I too have had that happen when making a block thinking it was the best until the next one was done! As quilters we are just so drawn to prints and colors.
