Beothuk QAL – Fabric Choices

We are joining in on a Beothuk quilt along that is just getting started this month.  On Wednesday, Sandra at mmm Quilts released the fabric requirements for her QAL and some project details.  To back up just a bit, last fall Sandra worked with Bernie at Needle and Foot Fine Fabrics to curate a fabric bundle of delicious fabrics.  Fine fabrics is an understatement, as everything I’ve ordered from Bernie are oh-so-nice.  I ordered a half-yard bundle of these pretty fabrics with no plan in mind.

Beothuk is Born

The bundle fabrics included everything except the pink on the very far left.  Once I had received the fabrics I then promptly asked Sandra what her plan was for these fabrics?  I thought if she had something in mind, we would join her in that direction as well.  Apparently, other friends asked Sandra and the quilt along was born.  And why not join in as the quilt along offers an enhanced Evening Star block and a finished size of 42″ square.  We are still enjoying our first Evening Star quilt project.

I ordered an extension kit to supplement the original fabric bundle.  This added the pink fabric as well as additional background fabric in Sand.  Ooh-la-la!  This will be a beautiful quilt.

Beothuk Background

Let me just give you a brief background on the Beothuk people, who are the descendants of an Indian culture called the Little Passage Complex.  My friend Google informs me that they are the aboriginal people of the island of Newfoundland. They were Algonkian-speaking hunter-gatherers who probably numbered less than a thousand people at the time of European contact.  They became extinct in 1829 mostly from disease.

Our quilt will resemble the picture above that I borrowed from Sandra’s website.  I am excited to join in on this QAL.  Would you care to join in?  Check out the link in the first paragraph for all the details and fabric requirements.  If you have a few fat quarters and some yardage, you can make your own flavor of a Beothuk quilt.

Our other Linky Parties can be found by clicking the link above or along the sidebar on our website for more quilting fun – check out what our friends are up to.  Like/follow us on our Facebook page and you can share your photos of what you’re working on.  We would love to see them!

Hello Roseanne, This is going to be a fabulous quilt! I honestly wish that I did not have so many other commitments at this time or I would join in. I honestly do love almost all star quilt patterns and this one is one of those. But, I will let you and Sue do the honors for me and I will gladly watch from the screen as I gladly and excitedly continue to work on completing my UFO projects this year and the Mystery Quilt that I do with Carole at From My Carolina Home. Besides, I can bookmark the pattern and do it another time and have just as much fun then. LOL! Thank you so much for sharing and have a marvelous day!

  6. I can’t wait to see your progress with this. It is going to be a gorgeous quilt!! Thank you for the kind words about my shop Roseanne!
