Beau Bear Baby Quilt Finished, Gifted – TGIFF

Good friends of ours are soon-to-be first-time grandparents. Their oldest son and his wife are expecting a baby boy very soon in May. It is the first grandchild for both sides of the family, and we are so excited for all of them. We know from first-hand experience how much fun the littles can be, and how quickly they steal your heart in a snap. Let me share all the details on how we made this sweet baby quilt that we’re calling Beau Bear. It has been ready since early March and we were all set for the baby shower following my no stress allowed motto for the year! We are sharing this finish along with hosting TGIFF – Thank Heavens It’s Finished Friday.

Drop Everything for Beau!

Visiting my friends and fellow bloggers’ posts and websites to show support and to keep up on the details of what they’re working on led me down this path. We had just been alerted to the pending arrival of a new baby and a warning, of sorts, for a shower. That meant we got to make one of our very favorite things – a baby quilt!! Sue and I both had our thinking hats on, pondering which pattern to make as a gift to the new parents. Insert Gail at Quilting Gail and her inspiration bear quilt. She made her version for a blog hop and she, thankfully, shared the information about the pattern. Once that was secured, off we went down the rabbit hole, so to speak.

By early February, we knew that the couple was expecting a boy and that we wanted to feature blues and greens. Here are some of the fabrics we chose – the very dark fabric in the center is used for the nose and eyes. This quilt was also a chance to incorporate some special textures for the baby in the form of Minky!

Minky Soft Beau

Some leftover Minky from Addison’s ballerina quilt might have been used. It is a coral color that looks more pink than coral so we thought not. With a little more digging, we found some gray Minky and that seemed to fit the bill. We chose the soft fabric for the nose, muzzle, tummy, and paws. It will provide the baby with a different texture to enjoy. The smiling mouth shape seems to have faded away within the depth of the Minky. I am certain that Baby M. will feel and find its smile.

Quilting Beau Bear

For the backing of Beau Bear, we chose this cute little sailboat print. The boats are carrying friendly teddy bears, puppies, and monkeys. For quilting, I followed Gail’s lead and went with a stitch-in-the-ditch pattern. It makes a simple but pleasing pattern on the back, I think. Finally, for the binding, we chose a royal navy blue to put a firm period on the project. At that point, it only had to wait for the shower to be gifted away!

Beau Bear Gifted Away

Last Saturday we attended the baby shower for Baby M. The beaming face of the dad-to-be while his wife and mom-to-be looked on warmed our hearts. Perhaps we’ll have a picture to share of Baby M enjoying this quilt. He will need to listen carefully to hear all the secrets Beau has to share. We can’t wait to meet Baby M.

We’re opening the party Thursday afternoon to allow all time zones a chance to share. It will close at noon on Saturday (CST). You will surely find inspiration in the link ups!

You will find openings throughout 2022 if you would like to host TGIFF yourself. The link will give you more details!
