BAM – 2020 All Out Christmas Decorating

While I won’t be sorry to see 2020 come to an end, I’m not ready to let it go without a happy send-off. This year, we are starting to decorate for Christmas a little before Thanksgiving is even over. I have a village collection of houses and stores and even a quilt shop. Usually, they adorn every surface imaginable and available including a sofa table raised on blocks to make it more visible. This year, our niece Elaine sent over a ladder bookcase picture as a suggestion for hosting the village. Of course, it was a DIY project that didn’t come to fruition but the inspiration remained. We purchased this bookcase ladder from Overstock.com.

Lots of Building Before Decorating

Before we could even start on decorating, there was a lot of assembly and some flooring changes. We decided to have new flooring laid before the holidays after taking the whole summer to decide which choice from the multitude available. It took two days but it was worth the mess and having to move everything.

They came back one additional day to add the transition strips so our babies (and us) don’t trip going from carpeting to the new flooring. Now that project is behind us, we can get on to more important things like the bookcase ladder assembly! Sissy helped us with a lot more involvement from her than me. HAHA!

Of course, all this new stuff necessitated a whole lot of cleaning and moving furniture around which is one of my favorite things to do! The 12 totes of village pieces lined the back hallway, getting to room temperature before each piece was lovingly unboxed.

It looks rather festive, don’t you think?! We love it and will be tweaking it throughout the season . . . perhaps a train underneath the ladder with the train station.

Elaborate Decorating Foregone

It is starting to look like Christmas is coming around here sooner than later. The end result is worth all the challenges we encountered. We pulled out quite a few of our previous projects to enjoy as part of the decorating (links to tutorials or free pattern).

We’ll see what December 24th looks like closer to the day. It may look a lot like our Thanksgiving with no larger gathering allowed, and so be it.

Here’s our Christmas tree with Rocky, the ceramic tiger wearing a festive hat keeping an eye on everything. You can also see a small portion of the mantle quilt reindeers pulling Santa’s sleigh, plus the newer mantle/table star runner.
