August Cind-erella Quilt Finished OMG

Our August OMG or one monthly goal project is finished.  We are very thankful that Patty at Elm Street Quilts hosts a linkup party each month.  Since joining in on the fun last year, we haven’t missed meeting each month’s goal.  This month the project meets a monthly and quarterly goal which is a nice twofer.  So what is the August goal?  It was to finish the Cind-erella quilt top for a sweet girl and her grandma who adores Cinderella.

Earlier, we started working on a Cind-erella baby quilt for Addison.  The appliqué portion of this quilt top was quickly finished and it was time to get that portion complete.  After trimming down the HSTs because I wasn’t happy with them, the rows came together quickly.  I used a pin at each seam intersection just for fun!

Now that the HST sections were smaller than the pattern suggested, we added a small border/frame around them to increase their size.

Lickety-split and just like that we added an overall border in the medium gray star fabrics.  We thought that finished it off nicely, don’t you?

August Cind-erella Fun

Beyond our actual August goal, it was time to select a backing fabric.  There was plenty of time to get the top layered and quilted before the end of the month.  We seemed to have a distinct princess theme going on, and with a little hint of Cinderella, she had to be included.  A soft backing was a requirement and we were leaning toward fleece.

We found this princess fleece option which we thought would be perfect.  Addison likes nice soft things to rub against her face as she is trying to fall asleep, and this fits the bill.

Got My August Quilt On

Here’s a closeup of the quilting pattern I chose to do in the appliquéd area.  As far as resembling a night sky – I don’t think that was achieved, though. HAHA!

In both HST areas, I did a swirling stitch that morphed into a daisy-flower-like shape.  Chanting loose, loose, loose in my head as I quilted along to keep the size on the large size.  The fleece backing started out nice and soft, and I wanted to keep it that way.
