Aqua July Monthly Color Challenge Block

Once again, our monthly color block is finished just in the nick of time and before July is over.  This block is for Jen’s 2019 Monthly Color Challenge.

Aqua July Challenge

Jen released the July block well over four weeks ago featuring aqua this month.  The flower that inspired this month’s color challenge is the Jade Vine.  I’ve never heard of this flower before, have you?  I would love this in my garden if it thrives in my zone.

We are huge fans of aqua and even its much lighter counterpart, turquoise.  Teal and turquoise are both much closer to blue than green, while aqua is considered slightly more of a green-blue.  Sounds like comparing apples to apples to me as I love all three hues.  I hope Google didn’t lead me astray with these differences.

Aqua Geese A Flying

While Sue rallied and cut the fabrics for me, we did have a bit of a debate.  Should we use the Sand background fabric as background?  In this one block, there is less of the featured color of the month.  We could mix it up and make the geese from the Sand, but should we??

Aqua Makes Me Blue

In the end, we’re not that daring.  I am a follow-the-pattern-to-the-last-detail type of person.  I can’t go THAT far outside the box and live to tell of it!  Not really reading nor understanding the instructions led me astray for all six geese.  Chain-piecing the wrong piece of fabric was CLEARLY WRONG but I did it anyway.  And cut them apart on the line even though it looked odd!

Rip it out!  These units look much better though, don’t they?!  Even in the pre-pressing stage, I can see that they are going to look and work fine.

Aqua Success

Needless to say, we figured out that square of fabric was for a different project.  Duh!  It wasn’t even the Sand polka-dotted background choice.  Oh well, we never said we don’t make mistakes (and many of them).  Ta-da!  The July aqua block is completely finished.  Woot woot!

Haha! My daughter and I were just talking about ripping seams! She kept calling the seam ripper the ‘puller’ because I would say, “We need to pull out that seam.” I told we (quilters) call it frogging because we are ripping (ribbit) out the seam. Pretty colors for you flying geese!
