April Showers Table Runner OMG

For our April OMG project, we took the “April showers bring May flowers” adage to heart.  Patty at Elm Street Quilts hosts a monthly link up called One Monthly Goal (OMG).  We have been successfully finishing our monthly projects for over a year.  Thank you to Patty and many different vendors for sponsoring the event.

April Project

We chose to finish appliquéing our Spring Showers Table Runner as our April project to focus on.  After all, it is covered with cute umbrellas to keep us dry during the April showers.

There is a LOT of appliqué pieces that were worked on in the project.  Good thing I enjoy doing appliqué, huh?!!  And I can report that I still enjoy it.

Project Appliqué

By mid-month, I had three of the five squares all finished.  I shared these two pictures on Instagram.  It seems one of the tulip bundles encountered a wind storm as one of the blossoms is missing (not pictured).  Only the stem got appliquéd!  Don’t you think that reflects real life, as my tulips were always just stems after a little rain storm passed by.  (I found the missing tulip flower underneath the broken sewing machine!)

I would love to have a real umbrella that was made from this fabric.  With all the colorful polka dots it looks so happy, and who doesn’t like yellow rain boots?!  Some raindrops were also appliquéd in the colorful border.  Here is a closeup of one of the drops and another of it layered showing more drops.

It was SO easy to piece this runner this time.  Usually we make some modifications like shortening or lengthening the overall project.  This time we followed the pattern and it went together like greased lightening.  Imagine that!

April Showers

I was planning to share the finished runner on our island, all appliquéd, and quilted.  However, that didn’t quite happen because our Elna sewing machine broke on the day quilting was to happen.  Three lines of quilting were successful and on the fourth pass all heck broke loose.  I had to wait until our quilt shop opened at 9:30 to hear that it would not be fixed until Monday (yesterday) at the earliest.  No more quilting.

The picture on the right shows the backing we chose for the runner.  I expect this project to be a total wrap shortly.  It’s nice to have options for the island, so we’ll need to start on another one soon.  This runner was originally mentioned back in May 2018 in our to-do list for the week so it is trending for taking a full year for completion!

Our other Linky Parties can be found by clicking the link above or along the sidebar on our website for more quilting fun – check out what our friends are up to.  Like/follow us on our Facebook page and you can share your photos of what you’re working on.  We would love to see them!

I always dread a machine break down when I don’t want it and I guess we never do! This is going to look gorgeous when you totally finish it. Me – I want gumboots like those.

Sorry you had machine issues. Hopefully you can get the runner on the island before too long. And considering you aren’t quite done with Winter I am sure Spring will show up soon!! LOL

  7. This is a very cute runner. With all the showers you’ve had in April, you may need snow shovels instead of umbrellas 🙂 Looking forward to your May flowers next month!

Such a colorful runner. Bummer about the machine. Hope it is not to expensive to fix. I’d feel as if my right arm had been cut off without my machine. Always time its maintenance when I will be gone.

Hello Roseanne, I am looking forward to seeing how you are going to quilt this fantastic runner. So sorry about having machine problems. It never seems to fail that they occur during a very important project. This umbrella table runner is definitely a project that will bring smiles to everyone who looks at it, I always enjoy doing projects like that. Thank you so much for spreading inspiration and happiness in all of your projects and posts! Have a marvelous day! I am waving hello……
