A Tale of Two Princess Quilts

Woot woot!  Here is a little tale about two different princess quilts.  It only took us six days to get the second princess quilt sewn, quilted and bound.  The seventh day was used for washing, drying and bundling them up for mailing.  I didn’t think we could possibly get it finished that quickly . . . and that was even running completely out of thread one day.  Here is a shot of the finished quilt:

The abbreviated back story in case you are new here is that we completed and listed a princess quilt on Etsy.  I noticed it had some interested in our shop. That is really nice!  Although I  truly couldn’t have been more surprised than when we received an email asking if we would make another princess quilt?  Our customer has twin granddaughters and needed the quilts in exactly two weeks.  Gulp.  Sure, we can meet that deadline.  So we began in the beginning by sewing the blocks together.  Next came the layering and embroidery of the cute hearts:

The embroidery hearts were finished on Tuesday, and then the other quilting commenced.  That was going along great until the sixth day when we had a thread emergency. (FYI – it’s not a good time to just pop in to Joann’s for thread a few days before Halloween – they are VERY busy!)  Finally, the hand sewn binding was completed by Sue.  Here they are all neatly folded and ready to be wrapped and boxed for mailing:

You can see the quilts are similar yet each is distinctive.  The twins will be able to easily determine which quilt belongs to them.  First of all, the borders are different on the front, and secondly, the backing fabrics are different.  I think we need to ‘whip’ up another princess quilt for the Etsy shop since they are so popular, don’t you think?

I would think that a princess quilt would always be popular! That was a lot of work, but how nice that you could come through for the grandmother, and her twin girls.

Thanks so much! It was fun making the second quilt – the embroidery really turned out better, I think. ~smile~ Roseanne

Hi Susan! You persevered and got it to work, huh??!! Well, I thank you for that and for your sweet comments. I will try it myself next week – I know where you are if I have issues. HAHA ~smile~ Roseanne

      Hi Kate,
Boy, you hit that on the nail! Every time I started getting anxious I just told myself no, there is plenty of time. Usually I would go OMG, OMG – I’m never going to finish this in time. HAHA Those ‘Stay Calm’ signs are spot on. ~smile~ Roseanne

  4. Roseanne, Congratulations on your speedy finish! You certainly went above and beyond. I can just imagine the tears of enjoyment and all the warm snuggles the girls will have. Great job! 🎉🎉❤️

Aww, Cindy. That is too nice of you to say. I’ve been tracking the darn package and it still wasn’t delivered yet – so much for paying for 1-2 day service. I don’t know how USPS counts but this is day 3 or 4 when it was mailed on Monday! Good thing it was finished quickly. ~smile~ Roseanne

  5. This is such a cute and effective motif with the hearts in the plain blocks.
I think you typify the old saying…if you want something to get done, ask a busy person to do it.
My mind spins when I think of all I accomplished in my working life esp. compared to what I am doing these days. But then no deadlines is a reward of retirement too!

      Hi Jocelyn!
I certainly agree that no deadlines are the reward of retirement! I hope you are enjoying it immensely – I am looking forward to that in 5 years. One can create their own deadline though. I try to do that with the weekly list – more as a focus to keep me on task. Otherwise I’m like, hmm, what do I need to get done? What am I working on now? HAHA ~smile~ Roseanne

  6. I do not know how you two get so much done…and even hold down jobs too! You must be like the battery bunny that just keeps going. I wish I had as much energy and productivity as you all. Beautiful quilts.

Peggy! That is so sweet to say!! I guess we work well with deadlines – I recall that same thing with papers that were due in college. Once I say I’m going to get something done, I usually do. That’s why I was so darn disappointed with my October OMG fail. That is just not acceptable to me! Thankfully no customer was involved. ~smile~ Roseanne

      • When I was in college I had to do assignments as soon as I received them (on my job also now that I think about it) because I was always afraid something would happen to make me…..gasp….late! Thank goodness I have overcome that a little. 🙂
