2020 Monthly Color Challenge – January Block

Are you ready?  The New Year is here whether you are ready or not.  While it may seem like just another turn of the calendar page, we are actually starting a new decade.  There’s also a new 2020 Monthly Color Challenge to start out this new January.

Color Challenge 2020

January Monthly Color – Yellow

The colors we selected for the whole year was shared back in December, but I’ll bet you didn’t remember that yellow is the color up first.  I just adore this fabric which is called Crayola Kaleidoscope and Jen’s inspiration is the American Golden Finch.  This birdie features these same two colors plus a bit of neutral white.  Gorgeous isn’t it?!

Sue started cutting the necessary pieces for me and it was time to start sewing some four-patch blocks.  This involved some strip sewing, more cutting and more sewing.

No one can be thinking of a bumblebee after seeing the proud finch on Jen’s website.  Check out her website for more details and also to sign up to receive monthly notifications for the pattern.

I’m personally not a big fan of yellow, but you have made yellow look gorgeous in this block! Just the right proportions of black and yellow so that neither dominates.

  10. Love your yellow and black block, Roseanne! The Crayola Kaleidoscope fabric is really fun! I made my yellow block yesterday, and it went together so nicely. I had been wondering if there was a link-up to share blocks and you answered that question for me.

  11. beautiful — I love anything paired with black — so simple yet so elegant!

  12. There’s nothing so dynamic as two-colored blocks, and black and yellow really packs a punch! I think I may have to go with black background this year. Still deciding, though — and feeling very behind schedule!

  13. I love this! The black is always so stunning. Bumblebees and finches do play together in keeping the world a lovely place.

  14. Such a stunning take on a basic Amish-style color scheme. No bees buzzing over this block, that’s for sure!
    🙂
