Fall Baby Quilting Finally Finished

The original name for this baby quilt was coined by Sue as Fall.  She laid out the fabrics for this quilt in June 2018 and by November it had fallen off the radar.  In our own defense, a sweet baby girl was due soon and we had other priorities like a Christmas stocking for her, etc.  This was to be hand quilted once it was a quilt top, and that’s when the issues began.

Fall Worthy Baby Quilt

I’m not sure why a photo was never taken when this quilt top was finished, but I did find this picture of the backing complete with an annoying thread in the photo.  Why is it I never see those until AFTER I’ve taken the picture?!  I love that the backing fabric is called Blessings.

Fall Leaves Backing

During the summer of 2018, Sue started hand quilting this piece and had many thread issues.  The thread would knot and break, and after suggestions from blogger friends, we tried some thread wax.  In spite of all those remedies, this quilt top was still set aside until May of 2020.  I put it on our second quarter finish-along list and casually mentioned that it was supposed to be finished by the end of June.  I guess that lit a fire . . . <wink>

Fall Leaf Quilting Templates

Sue used a variety of leaf-shaped templates for quilting this quilt top.  We found them by doing a simple Google search which we then sized to our liking.

Randomly placing a leaf template as she moved around the quilt top went quickly once Sue settled on some Coats thread.  This second-quarter goal is one that we are happy to report is complete!

Fall Baby Quilt Finish

And a finally finish it is . . . with just over two years before we could call it a wrap.  Tacking down the gold-colored binding to match the border by hand was added willingly as it’s so relaxing.

This little beauty doesn’t have a home quite yet.  It might be listed in our Etsy shop . . . or not.  The hot and humid weather warranted an inside photo complete with sunshine and shadows.

it looks great! what brand of thread was used that was causing so much trouble? sometimes just cutting a shorter length of thread will work, but there are some I have never used again for hand quilting
