Quiet Book Completely Finished

Way, way, way back in December 2018 we started working on a Quiet Book for Dominic and his then soon-to-be sister, Addison.  I saw this project initially on Carol’s website, Just Let Me Quilt.  She made this book for her ‘monkey boys’ (grandchildren) and shared a tutorial that you’ll find by following the link.  Not only will you find the tutorial at that link but you’ll also see some cute monkey boys trying on the ‘shoes’ and tying the laces.

Quiet Process

This Quiet Book entailed a whole lot of appliquéd pieces.  A.whole.lot.  Good thing Sue doesn’t mind prepping this for me, and good thing I enjoy appliqué.  We made a few minor modifications from Carol’s version, but for the most part, it’s very similar.

Of course, we had to start at the beginning (a.k.a. the cover).  The back cover is the opposite of the cover, so that had to be worked on at the same time.

Quiet Skills

As the pages started to come together during the year, I appliquéd as time allowed.  Sometimes there would be LONG stretches without any work; luckily, Sue left me detailed instructions so I didn’t appliqué more than I should have.

I dutifully followed instructions, of course!  One page holds a pocket for a tablet to draw on with a spot for a pencil or pen, while the opposite page will allow for buttons to be added to the shirt front.

Quiet Wrap Up

Sewing the handles together and adding velcro is one of the last steps.  After basting them in place, it was time to determine the layout for the pages. 

The center page has to be the road so that it can lay open with a car in the garage pocket.

With right sides together, you sew around each set of pages and then flip them inside out.  A quick top-stitch around all four sides closes up the hole left for inverting and then final assembly can occur.

My Quiet Book

Ta-da!  Here is our version of My Quiet Book.  Thank you, Carol, for the inspiration and tutorial.  It was fun to make and I know our littles will enjoy it greatly.

We’ll share a photo of our little ones enjoying the Quiet Book soon.  We’re also thinking about switching out the shoelaces . . . the pretty turquoise ones look nice but they are slippery.  Maybe we can get a photo like Carol did with her monkey boys trying on the shoes?!  The car pictured on the roads is the Bat Mobile Matchbox edition – would “Bat Girl Auntie Sue” provide any other type of car?!
