Las Vegas Leaves Finished October OMG

This UFO has been in the works for at least a decade.  More like a minimum of two decades I believe!  I am happy to say that we have finished our October OMG that Patty at Elm Street Quilts hosts each month.  The Las Vegas Leaves quilt was one that we saw originally in a quilt shop.  Guess where?!  Yes it was in Las Vegas near the UNLV campus.

Leaves Leave an Imprint

The fabrics in this quilt still make my heart sing.  The quilt shop owner drew a sketch for us on how to make the one leaf block.  Four of the single maple leaves with their stems pointing to the center make up one quarter of the quilt.  We paired the four large blocks with some green sashing, and bob’s your uncle.  It was complete, a good twenty years in the making – give or take a few years.

Leaves and Glamor Shots

Sue and I took ourselves down to Lake Michigan for some photos.  We checked the weather – cloudy, 51 and only 5 mph wind.  That sounds doable, heh?!  So we loaded up all the quilts I’ve been meaning to list on Etsy along with this gem.  Here are a few of the glamor shots we took.  It was a little windy in spite of what my phone said.

Leaves Details

I wanted to climb out on the rocks for some really glamorous shots but falling in the lake wasn’t on my agenda that day.  A stipple quilting pattern was used on the leaves, and the “S” shaped ladder pattern in the green borders.

The backing fabric is a tan shirting fabric that I ordered from Missouri Star Quilt Company.  Collection for a Cause is the name of the fabric line, and it was just a dream to stitch on.  A great finish for this quilt, and one last peek.

Your photos are great but i would have been concerned the quilt would slide off into the lake.I live in a rural area not far from the Mississippi River. There may be a gently breeze where the weather man is but that is not the case where I am. My photos may not show a square quilt but I know they are. Your quilt is lovely.

Your finish is wonderful! Congratulations on meeting your goal, but doing it with such beauty. Let me know when you are ready to quilt for others. =) I smiled at your glamour shots, but your placement and the wind did give us a good view of all parts.

  5. Oh come on, Roseanne. Falling in the lake, arms flailing, quilt flapping in the breeze would have made an excellent picture. Love the leaves. even the colors are so warm and earthy – perfect for fall. Hope you are staying warm and cozy.

Hubby and I will be in Chi-town next week and I’m looking forward to walking along Lake Michigan even if my blood has thinned out and lost its thick-resistance to the cold! HA!

Hello Roseanne, This is a lovely quilt. I bet that both of you are so thrilled to have accomplished this goal. Your pictures are fabulous with the wind blowing, I am glad that you chose not to be on the rocks. Wind can be very dangerous and definitely has a mind of its own. Thank you for sharing another beautiful quilt with us and have a spectacular day!
