Road Trip – The Quilter’s Trunk, Chicago, Illinois
What a fun shop this is! Somewhere in the suburbs of Chicago – I truly have NO idea how we got there because I wasn’t driving, but something about I-355 and I-55 you will find The Quilter’s Trunk. This shop is worth finding and shopping for a bit. The entrance is so cute with spools painted on the wall in various colors. There is a wide range of fabrics, patterns, notions and RULERS. Carol and I both invested in a ruler (or possibly two) from Parrs Free Motion Rulers, and we were tempted to go back and buy more the very next day. Rainy weather and the fact that we are going to a big ruler SALE next month slightly deterred us, but they are still in our memory for a possible quick return. ~smile~
There is a really cute story about how the owner, Katie, and the store Manager, Lisa, met in a sewing class. Lisa was teaching the elephant pattern above, and it became quite symbolic for them. They knew the quilt shop was meant to be, and the name came to Lisa in a dream one night. The Quilter’s Trunk was born. I so enjoy hearing the back stories of quilt shops – they all have a different one to share.
Lisa from Quilter’s Trunk:
Here is Lisa in front of their Row by Row 2017 finished pattern. I saw the elephant and knew this was perfect, but the camper (!!) and the skyline. So darn cute. I forgot to mention they also have a fabulous selection of sewing machines – I was checking out the embroidery machines. They had a quilt sample which was from an embroidery machine but you would SWEAR it was from a long-arm. Wow – it was really cool. Here is a shot of the store layout along with a Hunter’s Star model. I told Sue it was a sign that we keep running into that pattern – she needs that for her bed:
We will definitely visit again! Really nice people, cool rulers, great fabric, inspiring models . . . what more do you want in a quilt shop??! Oh, and their own parking lot – no need to search for street parking and this IS Chicago, after all. That is huge!
